Looks forward to one remaining cross country and indoor season after redshirting the fall of 2001 and winter of 2003. Continued to mature at the 6K cross country distance in fall of 2002, and capped year with her first top-30 West Regional finish. Also a two-time NCAA Cross Country Championships veteran (1999, 2000). Ranks seventh all-time for Ducks in 800 (2:06.37). Stands first on team among returnees in 800 (2:06.37) and 1,500 (4:25.81) based on her bests from 2002 and 2003, respectively.
2002-03: Pac-10 & Regional Qualifier. Outdoors, made third appearance in Pac-10 800 final (seventh, 2:10.87, 2:08.21-prelims). Two weeks later, missed West Regional 800 final by less than a quarter second with her effort in the prelims (3rd-heat, 9th-overall, 2:08.28). Altogether outdoors, competed in 11 races for Ducks (800-8; 1,500-3). Broke 2:09 in four outdoor races - all among her last six contests of her outdoor collegiate career. Won Pepsi Team Invite 800 (season best 2:07.40) for second straight season over Washington rival Courtney Inman with another come-from-behind stretch run. Also dipped below 2:09 in May's Cardinal Qualifier in Stanford (seventh, 2:08.71). Lowered 1,500 personal best by 10 seconds at home in May's Oregon Twilight (third, 4:25.81) to earn Pac-10 and Regional invites in both. Competed only once indoors, with mile personal best in Washington Invite in mid-February (ninth, 4:54.72). In fall cross country season, helped squad to fifth place in NCAA Western Regional with her best race as a Duck harrier (26th, 22:20) - and one of four Ducks in the top 30. Scored for Ducks in all five varsity stops, including the Pac-10 Champs (44th, 22:36), Pre-Nationals (112th, 22:09), and Willamette (28th, 18:13) and Roy Griak Invites (61st, 22:29). Joined teammate Erinn Gulbrandsen on Pac-10 Cross Country All-Academic First Team.
2001-02: NCAA Provisional Qualifier. Missed NCAA invite by only .04 seconds with her 2:06.37 personal best and led squad. Made second appearance in Pac-10 final (eighth, 2:19.76) after clocking 2:07.61 in prelims (seventh-fastest of field and third in heat) - also ran on 4x400 relay (ninth, 3:51.65). Lowered personal best in Washington Dual with late come-from-behind win in final 100 meters (2:06.37) to move up to seventh in school history. Claimed other wins in 800 during season in Oregon Twilight (800, 2:08.70) and Weber State-Montana Triangular (2:11.98), and finished second in Oregon Invitational (2:12.79). Ran Pac-10 qualifier and personal best of 1,500 (4:35.79) at Nebraska Quad and ranked fourth on team at season's end. Made first appearance in Texas Relays and ran on 4x400 (third, 3:47.36) and 4x800 relays (second, 8:50.01), Second-team Pac-10 All-Academic selection. Redshirted cross country season after a femur stress fracture from May limited her summer training. Still trained with team much of fall, and raced unattached in Willamette Invite (33rd, 18:32) and would have ranked second among a mostly varsity Duck corps.
2000-01: NCAA Provisional Qualifier. On the track, saw most action of any Duck middle distance runner with 11 appearances in the 800 and 1,500. Ran 1 1/2-second personal best in the 800 (sixth, 2:07.08) at Cardinal Invitational in May. Also took fourth at Oregon Invitational (2:09.19) two weeks before. Earned Pac-10 qualifier in 1,500 to open year at Linfield Icebreaker (4:39.46). Pac-10 All-Academic Second-Team selection in track and field. In cross country, ranked third for team at three races, including the Roy Griak Invite (57th, 22:20) and NCAA Western Regional (45th, 21:53), and fourth at three races, including NCAA (194th, 22:50.4) and Pac-10 Championships (36th, 22:20) and Iowa State Memorial Classic (176th, 23:16.1). Ended fal season as one of only two Ducks to score at every cross country race.
1999-2000: Pac-10 Finalist. On the track, led the team in the 800 with her personal best from the Oregon Invitational (first, 2:08.62) and missed NCAA provisional mark of 2:07.00 by less than two seconds. In the 1,500 was less than a quarter-second off the Pac-10 qualifying mark in the 1,500 with her personal best of 4:40.31 that placed her sixth at the Willamette Open. During fall was one of key players on team's deepest distance class in several years. Scored at five of six meets, including helping the Ducks to 19th-place finish at the NCAA Championships (226th, 19:07.6). Opened championship slate as team's fourth finisher at Pac-10 Championships (31st, 18:39.9), before ranking sixth at the NCAA Western Regional (85th, 18:59). Highest finish on squad came at adidas Notre Dame Invitational where she ranked second on the team and 10th overall (17:44).
Prep: As a senior, won Hawai'i state titles in the 400 (56.88), 800 (2:20.77) and 4x400 (4:03.32) on the track after capturing her fourth harrier title in the fall of 1998. Capped final harrier season qualifying for her fourth Kinney West Regional Cross Country Championships. As a junior, won the state 800 (2:22.03) and 4x400 (4:06.90) and finished second in the 400 (56.71) to UO teammate Endia Abrante (54.41). Owned one of top personal bests of 1999 graduates nationally with her 800 mark (2:09.95) from the summer of 1998 at the Golden West Invitational (third), to go along with a 1,500 best of 4:45 and 400 best of 56.74. Personal: Her father Duncan Macdonald was a former star distance runner at Stanford and a 1976 Olympian at 5,000 meters. He was the first athlete to break Steve Prefontaine's American 5,000 record of 13:21.87 from 1974, and his personal best (13:19.40) from 1976 still ranks him 19th all-time among Americans. Major: Journalism. Born Erin Iliana Macdonald on January 13, 1981 in Santa Clara, Calif.
