Quiet, intelligent, steady and hard-working middle-distance runner that also has versatility to move up to 3,000 on the oval, or score in critical races in cross country. Was an NCAA provisional qualifier in the mile two seasons ago (4:04.31), and will look to break 3:46.00 in the 1,500 for the first time in his career. Ranks first among Duck returnees in 1,500 (3:48.21) and fourth in 3,000 (8:18.35). Based on 2003 season bests, ranks 11th among Pac-10 returnees in 1,500. Regular scorer in cross country all four seasons for the Ducks.
2002-03: Pac-10 & Regional Qualifier (1,500). Competed in four 1,500 contests outdoors, with all three better than his preseason best (3:53.4). Ranked first on squad at season's end with personal best from March's Stanford Invitational (15th, 3:48.21). Also ran in Pepsi Team Invite (ninth, 3:50.57), Oregon Preview (second, 3:51.15) and Mt. SAC Relays (fifth-heat, 3:52.62). In cross country, ran all four of team's varsity meets and ranked top six in each. Claimed his highest career placings in the NCAA (160th, 31:32), NCAA Western Regional (31st, 31:48) and Pac-10(18th, 24:34) Championships. Ran sixth for squad in Roy Griak Invitational (88th, 25:31). Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention selection in track and field and cross country. Indoors, competed only once in 3,000 in Iowa State Invitational (10th, 8:18.35) and ranked third among Ducks.
Fall 2002: NCAA Competitor (XC). Ran all four of team's varsity meets and ranked top six in each. Claimed his highest career placings in the NCAA (160th, 31:32), NCAA Western Regional (31st, 31:48) and Pac-10(18th, 24:34) Championships. Ran sixth for squad in Roy Griak Invitational (88th, 25:31). Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention selection.
2001-02: NCAA Provisional Qualifier (Mile - indoors). Did not compete outdoors due to a foot injury from March. Indoors, led Ducks in mile and was a second under NCAA provisional standard in mile with effort from UW Qualifier (fifth, 4:04.31) -- ranking him 38th nationally on the collegiate qualifying list. Also ran mile races in UW Quad (third, 4:06.80), Frank Sevigne Invite (second, 4:08.52) and Husky Scoring Meet (second, 4:14.90). Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention.
Fall 2001: NCAA Qualifier. One of only three Ducks that ran in team's top six in every cross country race. Scored at season opener, the Roy Griak Invite and ranked fourth on squad (85th overall, 25:16). Ranked sixth on team in three races, including NCAA Championships debut (176th, 31:48), and in NCAA Western Regional (49th, 32:53) and Furman Invite (86th, 26:07). Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention Selection.
2000-01: Redshirted collegiate track season to utilize an extra year of collegiate eligibility. Did compete unattached locally in 1,500 in Oregon Preview (second, 3:53.80) and Oregon Twilight (11th, 4:03.44). During cross country, finished as team's sixth runner in all four appearances. Was one of six Ducks and three frosh that finished top 25 in Pac-10 Championships (25th, 24:35.14). Also competed in NCAA Western Regional (60th, 32:30), Iowa State Memorial Classic (14th, 32:41.2) and Roy Griak Invitational (76th, 25:29).
Prep: In the 2000 3A state championships as a senior, he won both the 1,500 (3:55.64) and 3,000 (8:43.01) after missing meet as a junior. As a sophomore finished third in the 1,500 (4:05.25) and 3,000 (8:57.0h). Added seventh-place state finish in the 1,500 as a freshman (4:06.83). In the national rankings in 2000, stood third in the 1,500 (3:53.4), sixth in the mile (4:07.14), third in the 3,000 (8:18.72) and seventh in the 3,200 (8:53.98). Capped senior season with mile personal best in the Golden West Invite (third, 4:07.0h). As a junior, ranked seventh nationally in the 1,500 (3:58.2) and owned 1,600 best from the Arcadia Invite (4:15.43). In cross country, won 3A state crown as senior (16:27) and junior (16:24), and finished second as sophomore (16:21). High School (Coach): Home-schooled and competed for Cascade HS '00 (Dan Peterson).
