After a strong finish to his junior season, returns as conference’s top javelin thrower based on his personal best from the West Regional (222-4). Ranks 16th among returnees nationally based on the 2003 collegiate season best list. On the Oregon all-time charts, he ranks eighth all-time, and an improvement of 225-2 would move him into the top-five. Ranks 16th among collegiate returnees based on 2003 season bests.
2002-03: Pac-10 Champion (Javelin). Confirmed status as top javelin seed entering Pac-10 Championships with win (217-9) to continue streak of three straight Duck league champs. In West Regional (seventh, personal best, 222-4) missed NCAA invite in javelin by 3 feet, 7 inches, and a mark that would have qualified out of two of the other three regionals (although not the East, where fifth threw 228-3). Altogether, he competed in six meets, with the final five all 214-9 or better and the final four all better than his preseason best 218-5. Claimed second win of season in Oregon Twilight (219-9) and took runner-up honors in three other home appearances, two behind teammate John Stiegeler. His personal best was two feet away from joining the top-40 list on the U.S. year-end season best list (40th was at 224-4).
2001-02: Pac-10 Qualifier (Javelin). Competed in second conference finale (12th, 191-1, 58.24m) after entering meet seeded 11th. Opened year with season best in Montana-Weber State Triangular (second, 207-3). Followed with wins in USC-BYU Triangular (200-5, 61.10m) and Washington Dual (199-9, 60.88m). Altogether, was limited to action in five meets while fighting through various injuries in his right mid-section.
2000-01: Pac-10 Qualifier. Just missed points in Pac-10 Championships debut (ninth, 197-7) and stood second among freshmen. Threw his personal best in his collegiate debut in the Oregon Preview (second, 218-5). In opening weeks of season, also topped 210 feet at Texas Relays (10th, 210-4) and Washington Dual (second, 210-3). Overall, was above 200 feet in four of six meets.
Prep: In 2000, Ranked first nationally in the javelin (229-2, 69.86m) by nearly two feet. Won 4A state meet as senior (215-3), and finished second in 2000 Golden West Invite (210-3). Lettered two seasons as offensive and defensive lineman. High School: Gladstone '00 (Jeff Kelleher).
