In 2005, returns ranked third for UO squad, fourth in the Pac-10 and sixth in the region in the decathlon, and in the high jump stands seventh in the Pac-10 based on 2004 season bests. Transferred to Ducks from University of New Mexico before 2004 season, and was a Mountain West league decathlon scorer in 2003. Outdoors, as a junior in '05, he would earn an NCAA invite if he meets the automatic standard of 7,500 points, and would likely need to score at least 7,350 points to have a chance at qualifying off the provisional list (the minimum provisional point standard is 7,000 points).
2003-2004: NCAA Provisional Qualifier & Pac-10 Scorer (Decathlon). Capped Pac-10 decathlon debut with a scoring effort (fifth, 7,245) that set a personal best and exceeded the NCAA provisional qualifying standard (7,000) for the second time on the season, with the first coming in the Mike Maynard Wildcat Decathlon (sixth, 7,054) in late March. Was also a Pac-10 scorer in the high jump (fifth, 6-6 3/4), and competed in the conference long jump finale (10th, 22-7 3/4). Ended outdoor season ranked 30th nationally among decathletes, eighth in the region and fifth in the Pac-10 based on season bests. Indoors, provisionally qualified for the NCAA heptathlon finale in the Mountain Pacific Championships (eighth, 5,194).
Before Oregon: In first season of competition in 2003 for the University of New Mexico, finished fifth in Mountain West Championships decathlon (personal best 6,448) and one of four Lobos in the top 11. Also took 10th in California Invitational Decathlon in Los Angeles during Mt. SAC Relays (6,399). Opened outdoor season with a second-place decathlon finish in the Modrall Sperling Don Kirby Invitational (5,898 points) after leading the competition through the first seven events before a no-height in the pole vault. Did not compete in 2002 and attended Oregon State University.
Prep: As a senior in 2001, he won the Oregon 4A state high jump (6-8), and also competed in the long jump (third, 22-7) and triple jump (16th, 42-3.75). Was a four-time letterwinner in track, and twice in football and wrestling. Off the track was an honor roll member and class salutatorian. High School (Coach): Hillsboro ?01 (Tim Griffith).
