Redshirted the 2011 season. Showed good improvement throughout his freshman year in 2010. State champion in the shot put was a four-time OSAA scorer for South Albany High School (shot and discus, twice). Impressed with a third-place finish in the shot put at the 2009 Golden West Invitational. Threw 62-4 in the shot as an unattached competitor at an OTC All-Comers meet during the summer of 2009.
2010-11: Outdoors - Redshirt season. Competed unattached in the shot put and discus at the Oregon Preview. Indoors - Redshirt season.
2009-10: Outdoors - Began season with a throw of 49-4.5/15.05m in a second place finish at the Oregon Preview. Improved to 49-7.25/15.12m at the Stanford Invitational. Had a pair of PRs in the UCLA dual meet. Went 51-4.25/15.65m in the shot put and 158-8/48.37m in the discus. Was over 50 feet again in the shot put at the Oregon Relays (50-0.5/15.25m). Just missed a PR in a second place finish in the shot (51-3.75/15.64m) at the Oregon Twilight. Capped freshman year with a PR of 52-2/15.90m at an OTC all-comers meet in August. Indoors - Steady improvement in the shot put. Opened season with a throw of 49-8.5 at the UW Indoor Invitational. Improved to 49-11.75 at the Texas A&M Challenge. Went over 50 feet (51-0/15.54m) in a third place finish at the Husky Classic. Wrapped season with a toss of 50-0.5 at the MPSF Championships. Season Bests: Outdoors - Shot Put - 52-2/15.90m (PR), OTC All-Comers Meet, Eugene, Ore. (8/5/10); Discus - 158-8/48.37m (PR), UCLA Dual, Eugene, Ore. (4/17/10). Indoors - Shot Put - 51-0/15.54m (PR), Husky Classic, Seattle, Wash. (2/13/10).
Prep: Rising senior improved his shot put PR by six feet while winning the 2009 5A state championships (54-1) for South Albany High School. Also scored in the discus (fourth, 152-3) as a senior. Went on to finish second in the shot (54-5.75) and third in the discus (159-2) at the Border Duel Track Classic, before taking third in the shot put at the Golden West Invitational (55-4.25). Prep PR in the shot, 58-8.75 came in the season-opening dual versus Lebanon, his first of 10 straight shot put wins in 2009. After high school, saw another big jump in the shot with a throw of 62-4 at an OTC All-Comers meet in the summer of 2009. Hit high school best in the discus, 165-8, in winning the 2009 Mid-Willamette District meet, where he also swept the shot (50-0). Took sixth in the state in the shot as a junior (50-9.5). Placed fifth in the discus at the state meet as a sophomore (144-3). Was also an all-league defensive end for South Albany’s football team. High School Bests: Shot Put - 58-8.75/17.90m, 2009; Discus - 165-8/50.49m, 2009.
Personal: Major is undeclared. Aspires to be on the “World’s Strongest Man” competition.
