An All-American in the steeplechase for Virginia transfers to Oregon for his final season of outdoor eligibility. The graduate of the Charlottesville, Va., university holds a PR of 8:40.56 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Also ran a leg on the 4x800 meter relay team that narrowly defeated Oregon at the 2010 Penn Relays. A two-time NCAA qualifier in the steeplechase. Also a two-time USA Track & Field Championships qualifier in the steeplechase.
2010-11: Pac-10 champion in the steeplechase 2nd Team All-American (steeplechase). Outdoors - Squeezed into the final of the steeplechase at the NCAA Championships by less than a second, running 8:50.00. In the national final, placed 13th in 9:05.94. Won his heat of the quarterfinals at the NCAA West Preliminary meet in 8:47.82 to advance to the NCAA Championships. Found an extra gear on the last barrier to pass Stanford's Benjamin Johnson and win the Pac-10 steeplechase title in 9:04.62. It was his first career conference title. Ran a nation-leading 8:36.98 steeplechase at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, nearly a :04 personal best. Helped Oregon tie UCLA by winning the steeplechace in 8:57.59. Made Oregon steeplchase debut a memorable one by winning the Pepsi Team Invitational going away in 8:52.04. Ducks' debut came in the 1,500 meters at the Oregon Preview (3:51.53). Also ran that distance at the Stanford Invitational. Following the college season, made the final of the steeplechase at the USA Championships. ran 8:42.28 in his semifinal heat to advance on time to the final, where he placed 13th (8:54.12). Season Bests: Outdoors - 3,000 Meter Steeplechase - 8:36.98 (PR), Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, Stanford, Calif. (5/1/11).
Before Oregon: Earned All-America honors in the 3,000 meter steeplechase running for Virginia in 2010. Finished 11th in the event at the NCAA Championships (9:00.61). Set a PR in the steeple two weeks earlier at the NCAA East Regional, running 8:40.56. Was a two-time all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection in the steeple as was that league's runner-up in both 2009 and 2010. Helped Virginia defeat Oregon in the 4x800 at the 2010 Penn Relays. Was the 2005 Illinois state cross country champion for Palatine High School. Virginia Bests: 1,500 Meters - 3:47.81; Mile - 4:06.45; 3,000 Meter Steeplechase - 8:40.56.
