Offers great potential, and will be challenged by a deep Pac-10 decathlon field. Redshirted last season to heal shoulder and knee injuries dating back to high school.
2000-01: Redshirted season and saw limited action locally as unattached entrant. Spent much of year rehabbing previous knee and shoulder injuries, so his mobility was limited, forcing him to focus on the hurdles and throws and away from the jumps. Threw shot put season best of 47-11 3/4 in Oregon Preview (fifth). In Oregon Invite, competed in 110 hurdles (15.96w +3.1w, fourth) and 400 (10th, 52.70). Threw shot put (fifth, 47-5 1/4) and discus (fifth, 131-6) in Oregon Twilight.
1999-2000: Pac-10 Qualifier. Was slowed partially by injuries but still flashed bonafide decathlon talent. Missed scoring in Pac-10 debut (ninth, 6,615) by just over 250 points due to elbow injury from the meet, and ranked second among league freshmen.
Prep: A prep All-American, turned in 6,515-point decathlon debut in 1999 and ranked second nationally with the top three all matriculating into the Pac-10 ranks. As senior, quadrupled in state meet in 110 hurdles (third, 14.90), 300 hurdles (second, 38.78), shot put (second, 56-6 3/4) and discus (third, 155-0). As a junior, won state 3A shot put (58-10) and finished third in the 110 hurdles (14.68). As a sophomore, won the state shot put (56-1). High School (Coach): Shelton '99 (John Sells).
