Three-time Pac10 scorer, NCAA Championships qualifier and All-American has been one of the busiest hammer throwers on the team the last three seasons. Ranks among the school’s best in both the hammer and indoor weight throw. Two-time NCAA Championships qualifier who finished third at the 2008 U.S. Junior National meet. Two-time prep All-American in the hammer and the Gatorade Athlete of the Year as a senior.
2010-11: Outdoors - Wrapped collegiate career with his third NCAA Championships appearance in the hammer. Advanced to the NCAA Championships by taking fifth in the hammer at the NCAA West Preliminary meet (214-7/65.41m). Broke through with a personal-best in the hammer of 219-7/66.93m at the Pac-10 Championshipsto place third. That was the eighth-best throw in school history. Opened season by winning the hammer at the Oregon Preview (214-1/65.26m). Matched that mark in a runner-up finish at the Stanford Invitational. Slight improvemt on season-best to 214-2/65.28m in a win at the Pepsi Team Invitational. Runner-up in the hammer versus UCLA (205-3/62.56m). Another consistent effort at the Oregon Twilight (211-6/64.47m). Pac-10 all-academic second team. Indoors - Was the top collegian and placed fourth overall in the weight throw (59-9.75/18.23m) at the season-opening UW Indoor Preview. Improved to 60-0.25/18.29m in a win at the UW Invitational. Upped that to a season-best 60-9.25/18.52m at the Husky Classic. Finished strong with a personal-best 62-7.75/19.01m to finish third at the MPSF Championships. 2009-10: Outdoors - Ranked 13th nationally in the hammer. Consistent improvement in the hammer has moved him to No. 8 all-time at Oregon. Earned the first All-America honors of his career at the 2010 NCAA Championships, where he made the finals and finished ninth with a throw of 212-4/64.73m. Two weeks earlier, Advanced to the championships by placing ninth at the NCAA West Regional with a throw of 209-3/63.79m. Finished fourth in the hammer at the Pac-10 meet (203-6/62.02m) to help the Ducks win their fourth straight league title. Won the event at the Oregon Preview (209-8/63.92m) and Pepsi Team Invitational (213-8/65.13m) and was second at the Stanford Invitational (211-6/64.48m) before a big breakthrough against UCLA. Helped Oregon with that dual meet with a then-personal-best throw of 217-5/66.28m. Had a PR throw of 217-2/66.20m on his second attempt before throwing three inches farther on his fifth attempt. Took second in the hammer at the Oregon Relays (215-5/65.67m). Set another PR - his third of the season - at the Oregon Twilight, where he threw 217-8/66.36m for the eight-best throw in school history. Pac-10 all-academic honorable mention. Indoors - Won the weight throw at the Jan. 16 UW Indoor Preview with a personal-best toss of 62-1/18.92m. That mark ranked fourth all-time at Oregon. Took second in the weight throw at the Texas A&M Challenge (61-7.5). Finished sixth in the weight throw at the MPSF Championships (61-0). 2008-09: Pac-10 scorer and an NCAA West Regional qualifier in the hammer throw. Competed in the hammer in eight outdoor meets in 2009 and in the weight throw in four indoor competitions. Set seasonal-best in the weight throw at the New Balance Invitational in New York with a toss of 60-5.25. Outdoors, went over 200 feet four times, including a second-place effort of 201-1 to help Oregon defeat UCLA in a dual meet. Threw 200-5 in a win at the Oregon Twilight. Took sixth at the Pac-10 Championships (200-11) to help Oregon win its third straight league title. Threw 201-8 at the NCAA West Regional, where he finished eighth. Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention. Season Bests: Outdoors - Hammer - 201-8/61.46m, NCAA West Regional, Eugene, Ore. (5/30/09). Indoors - Weight Throw - 60-5.25/18.42m, New Balance Invitational, New York, N.Y. (2/7/09).
2007-08: NCAA Championships qualifier and bronze medal winner at the U.S. Junior Championships in the hammer. Had seven top-three finishes in the event in 2008. First-place throws came at the Pepsi Team Invite and the Oregon Twilight (205-9). Best throw of the college season was a 215-8 mark that placed him second in the Oregon-UCLA dual meet as he helped the Ducks defeat the Bruins. Pac-10 scorer with his fifth-place finish (203-8) for the back-to-back champions. At the NCAA West Regional, advanced to the national championships by placing eighth (203-7). After making his first NCAA Championships appearance, where he was the only freshman to make the hammer throw field, capped season with third-place effort at the U.S. Junior Championships with a toss of 221-11 (junior implement). Indoors, won the weight throw at the UW Indoor Preview (56-9) and threw a season-best 59-11.25 in a third-place finish at the UW Indoor Invite before taking seventh at the MPSF Championships (59-6.75). Season Bests: Outdoors - Hammer - 215-8, UCLA-Oregon Dual Meet, Eugene, Ore. (4/19/08). Indoors - Weight Throw - 59-11.25, UW Indoor Invite, MPSF Championships, Seattle, Wash. (3/1/08).
Prep: All-American in the hammer. As senior, won USATF Junior Olympic title (221-11) with meet record and finished second in USA Junior Championships (212-4). Earlier in the season won Team XO Invitational (222-7) at Hayward Field and placed second in the Golden West Invitational (229-11). As a junior, ranked third nationally among preps (223-11) and second in his class. Won the 2006 USATF Junior Olympic title (210-2) and broke the meet record by almost 19 feet after he won titles earlier in the season in the Washington state championships (212-8), Golden West Invitational (205-1) and Tri-Cities and Camas Championships (208-11/197-0). Placed second in state discus as a senior (162-3), and was only seven inches off his season best (162-10). Lettered four track seasons and three football seasons at tackle for 2006 state runners-up. All-league academic selection and owned a 3.96 GPA.
