One of two All-America distance runners that returned in the fall of 2004 for the Ducks with redshirt juniors Ryan Andrus (34th in '02). On the track in 2005, leads Duck returnees in 1,500 (3:48.51), 3,000 (8:09.18) and 5,000 (13:48.12). Needs to only run five seconds faster to join Oregon's all-time list in the 5,000 (10th is 13:43.82). Based on 2004 bests, ranks third among Pac-10 and regional returnees in 5,000 and sixth in the NCAA based on season bests, and also stands 11th in the 1,500 in the Pac-10. Is a three-time NCAA cross country veteran with two All-America honors and a two-time qualifier and All-American in the outdoor 5,000. One of two All-America returnees with Brett Holts back in 2005 from Ducks' fifth-place NCAA cross country finishers from 2002.
Fall 2004: Ran in Ducks’ top two in all four cross country contests. Led squad in West Regional (ninth, 30:41) - his highest regional effort after he took 12th as a sophomore and junior - and was fifth among potential NCAA individual qualifiers - one place away from the final invite. Just missed NCAA at-large invite with another ninth-place regional finisher taken from a different regional based on his faster clocking (two seconds quicker) on a flatter course. Earlier in season, stood second on team in Stanford Invitational (fifth, 4K-12:03), Pre-NCAA Invite (29th, 24:35) and Pacific 10 Championships (12th, 24:44). Earned spot on the seven-man All-Pac-10 Second Team unit for second straight season based on his league finish (12th). Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention.
2003-04: Two-time All-American (5,000 / Cross Country). Added All-America honors in his second NCAA track appearance in the 5,000 outdoors (seventh, 14:22.05) after he ran solo in fifth much of the first 3/4 of the race in hot muggy conditions in Austin, Texas. Earned NCAA invite thanks to fifth-place West Regional placing (14:13.45) at end of May. Two weeks before, placed top-six in Pac-10 5,000 for third straight season (fourth, 14:14.86). Ended regular season ranked ninth nationally among collegians thanks to his four-second personal best from mid-April’s Oregon Invite (seventh, 13:48.12). Also competed in 1,500 twice outdoors with Pac-10 qualifiers in each - Pepsi Team Invite (fifth, 3:49.09) and Oregon Preview (third, 3:49.77). Indoors, raced once and lowered 3,000 personal best by one second in Iowa State Classic (ninth, 8:09.18). In cross country, led the Ducks in the NCAA finale thanks to final 3K surge to net second All-America honor (29th, 30:13). Also led squad in West Regional (12th, 30:07) and Pre-NCAA Invitational (21st, 24:05). Ranked second on team in other two contests in Pac-10 Championships (eighth, 25:09) and Roy Griak Invitational (13th, 24:35). Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team pick in cross country and track and field. Personal/Seasonal Bests: Outdoors - 1,500 - 3:49.09, Pepsi Team Invite, Eugene (4/10/04). 5,000 - 13:48.12 (PR), Oregon Invitational, Eugene (4/24/04). Indoors - 3,000 - 8:09.18 (PR), Iowa State Classic, Ames, Iowa (2/14/04).
2002-03: All-American (5,000 / Cross Country). Claimed All-America honor in NCAA 5,000 debut (eighth, 13:59.00; 14:02-66-prelim) running virtually whole race near final finish and entered meet seeded seventh nationally. Was first of four Ducks in top 12 in Pac-10 5,000 (sixth, 14:15.05) in race featuring eight All-Americans. Claimed first career sub-14:00 mark in 5K in season debut with 12-second personal best (fifth overall/third collegian, 13:52.62) and team’s season best. Earned NCAA berth in West Regional (third, 13:54.28) after entering meet seeded fifth. Altogether outdoors, competed in eight contests (5,000-5; 1,500-2; 3,000-1). At season’s end, ranked second on team in 1,500 and earned Pac-10 and Regional invites with season best from Pepsi Team Invite (sixth, 3:48.51), then returned to also run 3,000 in same meet (sixth, 8:25.93). Pac-10 Track & Field All-Academic Honorable Mention selection. Personal/Seasonal Bests: Outdoor - 1,500 - 3:48.51 (PR), Pepsi Team Invite, Eugene (4/12/03). 3,000 - 8:25.93, Pepsi Team Invite, Eugene (4/12/03). 5,000 - 13:52.62 (then-PR), Oregon Invitational, Eugene (4/26/03). Indoor - 3,000 - 8:14.89 (PR), Washington Invitational, Seattle (2/15/03).
2001-02: NCAA Provisional Qualifier (5,000). One of three Duck scorers in Pac-10 5K (fourth, 14:28.30) thanks to gutty final lap, after ranking eighth in the Pac-10's regular season rankings. Ran 5K personal best of in Cardinal Invite (third, 14:04.85), even after his right shoe was clipped and knocked off by another runner with four laps remaining. That clocking still made him Oregon’s fastest frosh since Jim Hill in 1980 (13:48.39). Won his first collegiate race in Washington Dual 3,000 (8:21.39), edging senior teammate Adam Bergquist (second, 8:22.35). Ran four 1,500 races during season ? in the snowy Montana-Weber State Triangular (third, 4:01.84), Stanford Invitational (sixth-section, 3:50.23), Oregon Invitational (second, 3:49.99) and Oregon Twilight (third overall & top collegian, 3:51.39). Indoors, ranked second on squad in 3K (8:20.21) and fourth in mile (4:10.01) with season bests from UW Quad (sixth) and Frank Sevigne Invite (fourth), respectively. In cross country, scored in three of the final four races of the season ? the NCAA Championships (156th, 31:32), Western Regional (42nd, 32:41) and Furman Invite (73rd, 25:58). Also ranked top-seven for squad in Pac-10 Champs (30th, 25:51) and Roy Griak Invite (116th, 25:30). Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention selection in track and field and cross country. (5/3/02).
