In 2005, is one of two All-America distance runners that return for track season joining redshirt senior Eric Logsdon, a two-time honoree in the 5,000 outdoors. On track, leads Duck returnees in the steeplechase and ranks third in the Pac-10, fifth in the region and eighth nationally, based on 2004 collegiate season bests. Will need time of 8:35.0 to join the Oregon all-time top-10 - the fastest of any college in the U.S. Is a one-time All-American in both cross country (2002) and track and field (2004). Did not compete in cross country in fall of 2004 since he had already exhausted harrier eligibility, and owns eligibility both indoors and outdoors in 2005.
2003-04: All-American (Steeplechase): Weathered hot and humid conditions in NCAA steeplechase return and claimed first All-America track honor (seventh, 8:57.75). Two days prior, ranked sixth in prelim heat (8:53.38) and also sixth overall in the 27-runner field. Earned NCAA at-large invite since he ranked 13th nationally on the collegiate season best list thanks to his four-second personal in the Cardinal Invitational (10th, 8:44.57) - the Ducks' fastest effort over barriers since 1999. Braved foot injury to compete in West Regional (11th, 8:58.69) which featured eight NCAA qualifiers and three All-Americans. Nabbed third straight, top-four Pac-10 steeple finish in mid-May in Tucson (third, 8:58.28), then came back to rabbit Pac-10 5,000 through an honestly-paced first 3K. Altogether, ran seven steeplechase races for Ducks, and also broke 8:50 in season debut in Stanford Invitational (fourth, 8:49.66). Ended outdoor campaign ranked third in the Pac-10, sixth in the region and 13th nationally in the steeplechase based on season bests. Did not compete indoors. In fall, led cross country squad twice, including Pac-10 First-Team honors (sixth, 25:08) and also in Roy Griak Invite (11th, 24:34). Ranked third for squad in NCAA Championships (70th-injured, 30:39), West Regional (34th, 30:30) and Pre-NCAA Invite (39th, 24:25). Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team selection. Personal/Seasonal Bests: Outdoor - 3,000 - 8:26.27, Pepsi Team Invite, Eugene (4/10/04). Steeplechase - 8:44.57 (PR), Cardinal Qualifier, Stanford, Calif. (4/30/04).
2002-03: Cross Country All-American / NCAA Qualifier (Steeplechase). Made NCAA debut (11th-heat, 8:54.07) after earning invite in West Regional (fifth heat/overall, 8:50.70). Improved to second in the Pac-10 Championships steeplechase (8:55.00), then returned to competed in league 5K (12th, 14:44.42) in race featuring eight All-Americans. Lowered personal best by nine seconds compared to preseason best in Cardinal Qualifier (10th, 8:48.81) and afterwards was honored as Pac-10 Men's Track Athlete of Week. Overall, competed in six races, including five over the barriers with all of them 8:55.00 or faster. Pac-10 Track & Field All-Academic Honorable Mention selection. In fall cross country finale, improved by 55 places in his NCAA return and was one of four Duck All-Americans (43rd, 30:38) for the fifth-place Ducks. Preluded NCAA success with strong Western Regional (seventh, 30:41) and Pac-10 Championships efforts (12th, 24:08) as team's third finisher in each. Opened year with his highest-ever varsity placing on the squad - second - in the Roy Griak Invitational (16th, 24:48). Pac-10 Cross Country All-Academic Honorable Mention selection - one of five UO men named to first and honorable mention squads. Personal/Seasonal Bests: Outdoor - Steeplechase - 8:48.81 (then-PR), Cardinal Invite, Stanford, Calif. (5/2/03). 5,000 - 14:44.42 (PR), Pac-10 Championships, Los Angeles (5/18/03).
2001-02 Pac-10 Scorer (Steeplechase). Ended outdoor season as top freshman in Pac-10 steeple (fourth, 9:03.32), thanks to strong final surge to pass the defending champ. Entered league finale seeded fifth with his personal best from the Cardinal Invitational (third-section, 8:57.33). Ran first steeple in April's Stanford Invitational (ninth, 9:05.92), and followed with faster efforts in Washington Dual (second, 9:01.19) and Oregon Invitational (10th, 9:02.51). Opened season with flat 3,000 effort in snowy Montana-Weber State Triangular (second, 8:35.11). Did not compete indoors. Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention selection in track. In fall cross country season, scored in all five appearances, including third on squad in NCAA Championships debut (96th, 30:58). Ranked fourth on unit in NCAA Western Regional (31st, 32:13), Pac-10 Championships (21st, 25:18) and Furman Invite (65th, 25:52), and fifth in Roy Griak Invite (93rd, 25:20). Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention selection. Personal/Seasonal Bests: Outdoor - 3,000 - 8:35.11, Oregon Triangular, Eugene (3/16/02). Steeplechase - 8:57.33 (then-PR), Cardinal Invite, Stanford, Calif. (5/3/02).
2000-01 (Redshirted). Did not compete in either track season to utilize an extra year of collegiate eligibility. Did compete once outdoors locally as an unattached entrant and scored a personal best in the 3,000 at the Oregon Preview (11th, PR 8:25.75). During cross country, scored at three of four varsity meets, including Pac-10 Championships (19th, 24:23.02), Iowa State Memorial Classic (133rd, 32:36.9) and Roy Griak Invite (58th, 25:21). Won Bearcat Open (20:15.2), leading ?B' unit.
Prep: Owned prep bests of 4:03 in 1,500 and 8:29.66 in 3,000 for Bend High School (elev. 3,268'). Took second in state harrier meet as a senior (15:56), sixth as a junior (16:34) and 39th as a sophomore (17:04). In 4A state track final as a senior, finished 15th in the 1,500 (4:06.78) and seventh in the 3,000 (8:44.76). His 3K best of 8:29.66 ranked fourth among Oregonians in 2000. Lettered in soccer and skiing (three-time state champions), and was individual state ski champion as a freshman and senior. High School (Coach): Bend ?00 (Bob Latham/Mick Craven).
