Looms as Ducks' top returnee in shot put and discus based on 2004 season bests. Among Pac-10 returnees in 2005, ranks ninth in discus and 14th in shot put. Needs to improve discus best 20 feet to land on Ducks' all-time list (10th is 188-6). Is under the guidance of third-year throws coach and Olympic silver medalist hammer thrower Lance Deal.
2003-2004: Pac-10 Qualifier (Discus). In first collegiate season, led squad outdoors in the shot put and the discus. Just missed scoring Pac-10 points in the conference finale discus competition (ninth, 159-6) - two feet, two inches from final point-getter and two positions higher than his pre-meet seeding. Set personal best two weeks earlier in front of home crowd in the Oregon Twilight (first, 166-6) - only four feet, three inches shy of regional standard. Picked up another win at Hayward Field in season-opening Oregon Preview (first, 157-4). Threw shot put only twice on the outdoor season, and set season best in the Oregon Preview (second, 48-6 3/4). Progressively improved in the hammer throw, heaving personal bests in his final two competitions of 2004 - the Oregon Invitational (12th, 145-2), and the Oregon Twilight (eighth, 151-5). Ended outdoor season ranked 11th in discus in Pac-10 (and third among frosh), and 18th in shot put. Indoors, both of his appearances in the shot went longer than his outdoor season best, with efforts in the Pac-10 Invitational (20th, 49-4 1/4), and a personal best in the Husky Indoor Preview (fifth, 51-3 3/4).
