FARMER NAMED BIG TEN FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Defender Kylie Farmer was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct. 13 after helping Oregon come from two goals down to tie Iowa 3-3 on Oct. 11. Trailing 3-1 with less than 10 minutes to play, Farmer drove a long, high ball from the right side that Hawkeye goalkeeper Braelynn Galt batted away at the goal line. The ball fell to Cailin Bloom's feet and she one-timed a shot home from point-blank range to pull the Ducks within one at 3-2. Bloom's attack then set up Farmer's game-tying goal in the 84th minute. On a corner kick from the right side, Bloom got to the ball at the far post and headed a shot on goal that hit an Iowa defender and fell to Farmer, who poked the ball into the net with her right foot. It was the first career goal and assist for Farmer, who also attempted a season-best three shots against the Hawkeyes. This is the first weekly honor for Farmer, who is the second Duck to win Big Ten freshman of the week this year. Teammate Shiloh Baird was recognized after the first week of the season.
DUCKS SCORE THREE TIMES IN FINAL 16 MINUTES TO TIE IOWA 3-3
Down 1-0 in the second half and struggling to build some momentum, Oregon needed a spark. Goalkeeper Kailey Kimball provided it. Kimball stopped an Iowa penalty kick in the 60th minute and a reenergized Duck squad that fought its way to a 3-3 tie against Iowa Oct. 11 in front of 797 at Papé Field. The Hawkeyes didn't make things easy on Oregon with goals in the 65th and 80th minutes following Kimball's save. But after falling behind by two goals twice in the second half, the Ducks clawed their way back to earn a draw by scoring three goals in the final 16 minutes. Carly Cormack broke Oregon's four-match scoreless streak with a strike from distance in the 75th minute. Cailin Bloom and Kylie Farmer teamed up to score Oregon's next two goals that tied the match. Bloom scored off Farmer's deflected shot in the 82nd minute. Two minutes later, Farmer scored her first collegiate goal off a header by Bloom that bounced off an Iowa defender.
STATISTICAL ANOMALY
Oregon dropped a 1-0 decision to Penn State on Oct. 8 despite not allowing the Nittany Lions to record a shot on goal. The only score of the match was an own goal in the 59th minute. PSU's Paige Pasinski took a shot that hit the right post and then the ball ricocheted off the back of Oregon goalkeeper Gray Willson into the net.
