Ducks Fight Hard but Fall to No. 25 Michigan

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon played one of its toughest matches of the season in front of a record-setting crowd at Papé Field, but dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 25 Michigan in the 2026 home finale.
The teams were nearly even in shots with Oregon (6-6-3, 1-6-2) attempting 17 and the Wolverines (7-4-3, 5-4-0) taking 18. The Ducks led in corner kicks 7-2.
"We're disappointed, but I think we played hard, like we've continued to do all season," said coach Tracy Joyner. "And you know, to lose Maddie (Sharrer) very early in the game, you know, obviously kind of changed some things for us, but yeah, we played hard; we played really hard."
The sold-out crowd of 890 gave Oregon a 771 fans-per-game average for the 2026 season, breaking the previous per-game record of 762 set in 2006.
"We've got a new standard," said Joyner of the record attendance. "This is our new normal, and we really hope to continue to put a good product out in the field for our fans and spectators. We're really proud of how we performed this season, and we hope that we made the fans proud too."
How It Happened: Sharrer, Oregon's starting holding midfielder the entire season, went down after a hard collision in the eighth minute and was not able to return.
With the Ducks down on of their key defenders, Michigan took advantage by scoring a long-range goal in the 20th minute and led 1-0 at halftime.
Oregon came out of halftime and pressed for the equalizer. The Ducks earned three corner kicks in the first three minutes of the second half that produced two shots for Cailin Bloom. The sixth-year senior's bicycle volley in the 47th minute nearly produced the goal of the year before it was saved by Michigan.
The Wolverines added a second goal off an Oregon turnover in the 54th minute.
The Ducks spread out their offense with 11 different players attempting at least one shot Friday. Bloom and Ella Osmussen led the team with three shots each while Carly Cormack and Cloe Chase each had two shots.
"We showed a lot of fight and resilience, and that's something at this point in the season, when you're not quite sure if you're going to make playoffs, it's hard to get a team to compete and play that hard," said Joyner. "So I was really proud of how we showed up, and I know we're going to continue to do that in the next couple games.
"So that was a big positive, and I think we had really great minutes from Giselle White," said Joyner. "I thought she looked fantastic today. Shiloh (Baird) started to come into her own quite a bit. Really good moments from our players off the bench, and that's important, especially when you lose a starter five minutes into the game."
Notable: Junior Gia Kiesling made her first career start in goal and made three saves. … Osmussen tied a career high with three shots. … White, who spent the first two months of the season with Argentina's U20 World Cup team, attempted her first shot as a Duck. … Lauren Kenny also recorded her first shot of the season. … Friday was Oregon's third sellout crowd of the season.
Quotable:

"She's been really consistent at training all year, and it was finally time to reward her with her first college start. I thought she did really well today. Great presence in goal. She's got a lot of athleticism, and she's bouncy there. So, we had a lot of confidence with her."
Up Next: Next week, the Ducks travel to Wisconsin (Thursday, 5 p.m. PT) and Minnesota (Oct. 25, 11 a.m. PT).
