MADISON, Wisc. – Oregon played a solid first half but Wisconsin scored three goals in just over three minutes early in the second half as the Ducks dropped a 5-0 decision to the Badgers Thursday at McClimon Track/Soccer Complex.
Â
The Ducks will look to bounce back Sunday at Minnesota.
Â
How It Happened: Gia Kiesling made a terrific save on a shot that was lined through traffic from the top of the box in the 17th minute to keep the match scoreless. But Wisconsin (9-4-3, 5-3-2) headed in a long cross from the right side to take a 1-0 lead just a minute later.
Â
Giselle White provided a spark after she subbed on in the 25th minute by nearly tying the game five minutes later. The Ducks quickly worked the ball up the right side on a counterattack. Taylor Dever found Abella Hunter at midfield on a goal kick. Hunter then feathered a ball through the Badgers' defense toward White, who ran onto it at the top of the penalty box and one-timed a rocket that went just over the crossbar.
Â
Oregon trailed by one at halftime, but couldn't keep pace in the second half.
Â
Wisconsin took advantage of a free kick from midfield in the 55th minute to score their second goal and then added two more goals in the next three minutes to pull away from the Ducks.
Â
Notable: The Ducks fell below .500 for the first time this season at 6-7-3 (1-7-2 in the Big Ten). … In addition to White, Cailin Bloom, Cloe Chase, Ellie Felt and Ella Osmussen also had shots for the Ducks. … White, in just her sixth match for Oregon after playing for Argentina in the U20 FIFA World Cup last month, played a season-high 32 minutes. … Wisconsin's 10 corner kicks were a season high for an Oregon opponent.
Â
Up Next: Oregon wraps up its Midwest road trip Sunday at Minnesota (11 a.m. PT, B1G+).
