Ducks Bounce Back with 3-0 Win at Hawai’i
08/24/25 | Women's Soccer
WAIPAHU, Hawaii – Sydney Chura took advantage of a defensive mistake to score early and Hawaii native Carly Cormack scored a goal on the field where she won the 2024 state high school championship as the Ducks closed out the Outrigger Soccer Kickoff with a 3-0 victory over Hawai'i Sunday at the Waipi'o Soccer Complex.
Cailin Bloom added a late goal in the 88th minute, the first career goal for the fifth-year player from Dixon, Calif.
Oregon bounced back from Thursday's disappointing 1-0 loss to Sacramento State to claim the Outrigger Soccer Kickoff title by virtue of goal differential (plus-2) and improve to 2-1-1 on the season.
"It was a great team response to our Thursday match," said coach Tracy Joyner. "We got back to what we are about and showed resilience."

How It Happened: The offense produced three goals while the defense pitched its third shutout in four games.
In the fifth minute, Chura was in the right place to jump on a defensive mistake by Hawai'i. On a cross into the box, a defender headed the ball backward as the UH keeper was approaching the play. The ball bounced to the right side, where Chura ran on to it and left no doubt on an open net strike.
"When there's a poor touch from a defender, or you see two people kind of going to the ball, and there's any question, always take the chance and go for it," said Chura, who recorded her first NCAA goal after scoring 70 times at the NAIA level. "I read it and went for it and the opportunity turned out."

Chura assisted on Cormack's goal in the 27th minute. She fed the ball through a couple of defenders to Cormack at the top of the penalty box. Cormack then created a window and fired a low line drive that got through goalkeeper Kenndey Justin for her first score of 2025.
"Carly played fantastic and was rewarded with a goal in front of all her family and friends," said Joyner. "She's been working very hard – I'm so happy for her and our team."
With a 2-0 lead, Oregon's defense set the tone in the second half. The Ducks allowed Hawai'I (1-2-1) only one shot for the first 30 minutes of the second period.
Goalkeeper Caeley Goldstein was only credited with one save, but she deftly parried away four corners and a number of threatening crosses into the box for her second clean sheet of the season.
"Our backline was solid," said Joyner. "They've held it down since our first game. We love shutouts and the result is a huge testament to how hard they played and how organized we were."
Bloom put the game away in the waning moment on a corner kick. Cormack centered the ball to Cloe Chase, who headed the ball at the keeper. The ball deflected back to Chase, who slid a pass across the face of the goal to Bloom, who finished from five yards out.
"For Chura and Bloom to get their first NCAA college goals was special," said Joyner. "Our bench made a major impact today and I couldn't be more proud of our effort and mentality."
Notable: Sunday was Oregon's first win in four tries against Hawaii … Oregon has allowed just one goal in its first four games. That's Oregon's best defensive effort since the 2014 team also allowed just one goal through four games … Six different players have scored for the Ducks this season.
Quotable:
Sophomore Midfielder Carly Cormack
"It was definitely very full circle. I've been playing here since I was a kid. It was so nice being able to come in here with my team and especially come back after the last game and score and celebrate a win."
Up Next: Oregon returns home to host New Mexico Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (B1G+).
