Ducks Drop Top-10 Slugfest To Hoosiers

Oregon got a pick-six to tie it in the fourth quarter, but Indiana scored the last 10 points Saturday.
The UO football team dropped a 30-20 slugfest with No. 7 Indiana on Saturday, losing a conference game for the first time in two seasons of Big Ten play. It was Oregon's first regular-season loss since Oct. 14, 2023, and first loss in Autzen since Nov. 12, 2022.
The No. 3 Ducks dropped to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play entering a road trip to Rutgers next week.
"Certainly a disappointing result, but we didn't play well enough to win that game and certainly Indiana did," UO coach Dan Lanning said. "They did a great job in this game, had a great plan throughout."
Oregon had the lead just once Saturday, for five minutes late in the first quarter after taking a 7-3 lead. That came via a 44-yard touchdown pass to Malik Benson from Dante Moore, who finished the day 21-of-34 for 186 yards, with that touchdown and two late interceptions with the Ducks trying to come from behind.
The Ducks ran for 81 yards on the day, led by 59 from Jordon Davison. Bryce Boettcher led the UO defense with 11 tackles, and true freshman Brandon Finney Jr. had a pick-six in the fourth quarter that tied it, 20-20, before Indiana scored the last 10 points of the game.
"They played well, and we didn't play well enough," Lanning said. "No excuses from us."
After Atticus Sappington tied it 10-10 in the second quarter, he had a chance to break that tie just before halftime but couldn't connect. Indiana turned the tables by making an Autzen-record 58-yard field goal to lead 13-10 at the break.
Sappington retied it in the third, the Hoosiers scored a touchdown late in the period to lead 20-13 and Finney evened it again with his pick-six. But Indiana answered that play by driving to another go-ahead touchdown, and Oregon's next two possessions ended in interceptions, the first on a ball that was tipped.
"Ultimately, they were more prepared than us for this moment," Lanning said.
The Ducks now face a trip to the East Coast for a game next Saturday at Rutgers, before returning home to host Wisconsin in Autzen Stadium on Oct. 25.
"They recognize what's in front of them, and it's about improvement, it's about going on the attack," Lanning said. "… Our guys recognize every one of our goals is still in front of us."
