Karl Holmes Jr. joined the University of Oregon football staff in December 2022 and is heading into his second full season as the Director of Player Engagement. In this role, Karl provides guidance and support to student-athletes, helping them navigate the collegiate environment on and off the field. His focus includes player support and mentorship, personal and professional development, health and wellness, transition support, community and team building, and resource management.
Before his time at Oregon, Karl was a teacher and football coach at John Muir High School in Pasadena, CA, from 2021 to 2023, leading the team to a CIF championship in 2022. He also spent five years as a Youth Treatment Specialist with Los Angeles County, assisting at-risk juveniles in their transition to adulthood through gang prevention, educational support, job placement, and more.
Karl is a graduate of Mt. San Antonio College with an AS degree in Kinesiology and holds a double major BS in Sports Management and Physical Education from Grand Valley State University. He also earned an MBA with an emphasis in Leadership from Grand Canyon University. As a former student-athlete, he played football at Arizona State and Grand Valley State University.
