Ducks Drop Series Finale 9-5 at Washington
05/03/26 | Baseball
SEATTLE, Wash. — A seven-run sixth inning by the Huskies and a slow start at the plate led No. 13 Oregon to a 9-4 loss to Washington in the series finale Sunday.Â
Oregon's eight-game winning streak and its seven-game winning streak against Washington both came to an end as the Huskies earned their first win over the Ducks as Big Ten opponents. Oregon (35-12, 17-7 Big Ten) has still won 23 of the last 25 series over its cross-state rivals.Â
How it Happened: Washington (21-26, 10-14 Big Ten) took a first-inning lead for the third straight game in the series, hitting a two-run home run in the opening frame for its second first-inning long ball in as many days.Â
Oregon answered in the second inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by Gabe Miranda. Both starting pitchers then held the line through the middle innings.Â
Oregon starter Miles Gosztola was lifted in the fifth inning after 4 2/3 innings with runners on second and third. Sophomore right-hander Luke Morgan entered and recorded the final out of the inning, stranding both runners.Â
Oregon's bullpen was ruffled in the sixth inning, when Washington broke the game open with seven runs in a long 36-minute frame. Four Ducks relievers combined to allow two home runs and 11 batters to appear at the plate, including four runs with two outs.Â
Washington starter Hayden Lewis stacked zeros against a dormant Oregon offense until the eighth inning, when the Ducks finally broke through with three runs. He finished eight innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out eight.Â
Oregon showed a late spark at the plate, scoring four runs across the eighth and ninth innings, but could not overcome an eight-run deficit. After completing comeback wins in the first two games of the series, the Ducks' third rally attempt was spoiled as Washington closed out the finale.Â
Box Score Notes: Brayden Jaksa recorded his fourth three-hit game and seventh multi-RBI performance of his freshman campaign ... Gabe's RBI sacrifice fly marked his first RBI since March 21 ... Drew Smith finished the series 5-for-14 at the plate ... Gosztola fell to 2-3, suffering his first loss over his last five appearances.Â
On Deck: The Ducks travel to UCLA to open one of their last two remaining regular-season series. First pitch is at 7 p.m. on Friday (B1G+).
