Ducks Drop Game One at UCLA
05/08/26 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES — No. 1 UCLA took an early lead and never let No. 13 Oregon back in the game in an 11-1, 7-inning, Bruins win on Saturday in the opening game of a Big Ten Conference series at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Â
The Bruins (45-4, 25-0 Big Ten) scored in four of their six innings at the plate in a run-rule win.
Â
How It Happened: Â UCLA jumped on the Ducks early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. The Bruins loaded the bases with a pair of hits and a walk before a two-out double plated two.
Â
UCLA pushed the lead to 6-0 in the third, scoring four runs. The first two came on a homer with the last two scoring on a bases-loaded groundout with a Ducks' error allowing the last run to score.
Â
Oregon (35-13, 17-8 Big Ten) got one back in the fourth. Brayden Jaksa led off the frame with a single and moved to third on a Burke-Lee Mabeus double into the left-center field gap. Drew Smith picked up the RBI with a fly out to the warning track in left field.
Â
UCLA answered with two runs in its half of the inning before adding three more in the sixth inning.
Â
Box Score Notes: Jaksa, Mabeus and Jack Brooks each had a hit for the Ducks … Brooks reached base twice (1-for-1, BB) … Ryan Cooney had his reached-base streak snapped at 22 games.
Â
On Deck: The Ducks and Bruins meet in game two of the series on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (Big Ten Network).
