
Ducks Post Best Score of Season, Come Up Short Against Baylor

WACO, Texas – In the annual rendition of the most storied matchup in the NCATA, the Oregon Ducks met their match as the Baylor Bears picked up another win in Waco. The Ducks (2-1) outscored the Bears (4-0) in a stellar pyramid event, but Baylor lengthened its lead in the tumbling event and finished the day with a 278.080-272.530 win.
The second-ranked women of Oregon remained within a point of the top-ranked hosts through four events, earning some of their best scores this season, including a 92.530 in the team event.
How It Happened: The top-two teams were within a point of each other after a strong showing in the compulsory event. The Ducks posted a 9.900 in the compulsory pyramid and a 9.850 in the toss.
Cassidy Cu and Angelica Martin set the high score of the day for both teams with a 9.950 in the five element acro event. The duo returned to the mat with their signature slide to split for a 9.850 score in the seven-element heat.
Oregon once again proved strongest in the pyramid event, with all three scores at or above 9.800. The Ducks matched their best score of the day as Cu, Martin, Ashlyn Parlett, Emily Rezner, Charlotte Lippa, Blessyn McMorris and counter Sophia Wing delivered a 9.950 inverted pyramid heat. UO also put up a 9.900 in the synchronized pyramid and a 9.800 with Selah Bell on top of the open heat. After a misstep from the Bears helped the Ducks bring the total meet score within a quarter of a point entering the halfway point.
Freshman Nyla Lassiter topped a 9.600 score in the 450 Salto toss heat, and Oregon trailed 125.100-124.100 through four events before Baylor began to extend the lead in the final two.
Briya Alvarado highlighted the Ducks' tumbling event with a 9.875 pass in the open heat. The sophomore joined freshman Nya Womack and junior Brynn Mortimer to make up the tumbling trio who posted a 9.150.
Oregon debuted a slightly higher start value after tweaking the team event and posted its best score of the season with a 92.530 for a final meet total of 272.530. Baylor's team event solidified the lead in the final event and finished with a 278.050 victory.
The top-two teams will meet again in a Eugene rematch to conclude the regular season on April 6, when the Ducks look to take down Baylor for the first time since 2021.
