Ducks Win Duel With Gannon
03/06/26 | Acrobatics & Tumbling
EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 2 ranked Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team returned to their home mat on Friday, collecting their third win of the season against No. 9 Gannon and capped a season best performance with a tremendous team event.
In front of a crowd dotted with alumni, the Ducks (3-1) started slow but gained speed throughout the meet, taking down the Golden Knights (3-2) by a six-point margin. UO's return to the win column marked the best score of the season and helped the Ducks to a final score of 276.055-270.570 for past and present student-athletes to celebrate.
"Compulsory acro sets the tone for the meet, so most of the time that is where the highest nerves happen," head coach Taylor Susnara said. "When there is a mess up, we have to reset and we did that today. We really dialed in after that heat and left the nerves in the compulsory event. The team did a fantastic job recovering and I'm proud of the improvements they showed tonight."
How It Happened: Gannon gained an early advantage out of the compulsory event, after a slight bobble by the Ducks in the tumbling heat. Oregon's compulsory toss was once again fantastic, as Kamryn Horiuchi and Makenna Guidish executed toss which earned a 9.950 score.
Oregon regained momentum in the acro event, posting three scores above 9.500. The Ducks opened the event with a near-perfect 9.95 five-element demonstration from Cassidy Cu and Angelica Martin to establish a career-high for the duo. The UO team concluded the event with a 29.400 total score to the Golden Knights' 66.950.
Gannon and Oregon posted identical scores of 29.500 in the pyramid event, but the Ducks posted the best score of the event with a 9.950 open pyramid. Selah Bell was the top as Ashlyn Parlett, Emily Rezner, Blessyn McMorris and Charlotte Lippa delivered another strong performance in the heat.
The home team pulled away in the tumbling event, finishing with a 57.625 total score, a season best by nearly a full two points. Morgan Willingham was the highlight of the event, earning a 9.925 in the six-element pass, the highest score by a Duck this season and best of her career. Briya Alvarado completed a 9.825 open pass and freshman Nya Womack posted an 9.875 in the aerial tumbling heat, extending the total meet score to 182.875.
"Being a solo tumbler is a lot of pressure, especially as a freshman," Susnara said. "As someone who once competed, I know that you can do the skills all day in practice, but when you get to the meet, all eyes are on you. Sometimes that can get the best of you, but our tumblers have been excellent this year."
The team event proved consistent progress for the No. 2 ranked Ducks as they improved their score to 93.180, the best mark of the season to solidify the team win.
Up Next: The Ducks return to Matthew Knight Arena to host the Iona Gaels on Sunday, March 15.
