Halloween In Autzen
Oregon plays at home for the fifth time this season and third time in October this Saturday, hosting No. 20 Northwestern for a Halloween showdown in Autzen Stadium. The Ducks will play in Autzen on Halloween for the first time since 2009 as the Wildcats make their first-ever trip to Eugene. Oregon and Northwestern are tied 1-1 in the all-time series, with the Ducks claiming their first win over the Wildcats last season in Evanston, 34-14. UO is 19-3 in Big Ten play since joining the league in 2024 and is looking to bounce back from its first Big Ten road loss last week at Illinois.
A Win Would...
» Make UO 30-3 at home under HC Dan Lanning and 58-5 at home since the start of 2017.Â
» Improve UO to 20-3 in Big Ten play since joining the league.
Fast Start Not Enough At Illinois
Oregon drove to a touchdown on its opening possession and led 10-0 late in the first half last week at Illinois, but the Illini scored on a 75-yard run with 2:15 left before halftime and then added two more touchdowns in the second half to come away with a 21-10 victory. Oregon dropped to 4-3 overall while playing its third straight game without injured QB Dante Moore, as the offense put up 426 total yards but managed to find the end zone just once and was shut out in the second half. Oregon's defense was stout for much of the day while holding Illinois to 314 total yards of offense and just 89 passing yards, but the Illini rushed for 225 yards.Â
Pass-Rush Race
Senior outside linebackers Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti are among the Big Ten's best pass rushers, and they are in a race to make Oregon history. Uiagalelei is currently tied for fourth all-time at UO with 24.5 career sacks, and Tuioti is eighth with 22.5 after racking up 4.5 across Oregon's last three games. They are the seventh and eighth Ducks, respectively, ever to reach 20.0 career sacks and are trying to catch the all-time record of 29.5 held by Nick Reed (2005-08). Uiagalelei is second in the Big Ten with 6.0 sacks this season while Tuioti is tied for third at 5.5.
Moore Unlikely To Return For Ducks In 2026
The concussion that sidelined QB Dante Moore during the first half of Oregon's win at USC in late September turned out to be a season-ending injury, and potentially brought to a close Moore's career with the Ducks. Moore has missed three subsequent games since the injury, and on Monday night UO head coach Dan Lanning said at a press conference that, "I'm not anticipating him being back this season." A first-team preseason All-American according to The Associated Press, Moore completed 296-of-412 passes for 3,565 yards and 30 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in his first season as Oregon's starter in 2025. He was 69-of-99 for 926 yards and nine touchdowns with no interceptions this fall before being knocked from the game at USC on a vicious hit while Moore was sliding at the end of a run. Lanning said Monday that the Ducks got clarity last week on Moore's condition moving forward. "I think if it was up to Dante in any shape or way, he would want to be out there playing for guys, but unfortunately, it's not really up to Dante," Lanning said. "It's not really up to me. … We said before that this is a serious deal that he'll 100 percent be able to make a full recovery from. That hasn't changed … but for him to be out there on the field for us right now, that's not going to happen."
Lanning Announces Coaching Staff Change
HC Dan Lanning announced on Sunday that offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer has been relieved of his duties. "Drew has been a valued member of this staff since 2022, and I am appreciative of everything he's done for Oregon," said Lanning. "He played a tremendous role in what this program has accomplished over the last several seasons. This was a decision I felt was in the best interest of our football program, as I believe a new direction is necessary to move our offense forward. I thank Drew for his efforts and wish him all the best." Lanning announced assistant quarterbacks coach Jay Johnson would lead the offensive play calling moving forward this season.Â
