The Ducks tied for sixth in stroke play last spring before reaching the match play semifinals, the program's second trip to at least the semifinals in a three-year span. Oregon placed second in stroke play in 2022 and reached the national championship match before falling to No. 1 Stanford. UO has reached match play three times total, first doing so in 2016 on its home course at Eugene Country Club.
2-for-2
Oregon will look to make a run at the national title and complete the postseason triple crown this week after winning both the Big Ten Championship and the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional. The Ducks are one of just three teams (Florida State, South Carolina) to win their conference tournament and place first at a NCAA Regional, joining th historic 2021-22 Oregon team as the only UO squads to achieve the feat in the same season. The Ducks have been led by dominant sophomore Kiara Romero, who is also 2-for-2 this postseason after running away with the individual Big Ten title and medalist honors at the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional.
Kiara Romero - Superstar
After a stellar freshman season in 2023-24 that saw her win WGCA National Freshman of the Year honors and tie for sixth overall at the NCAA Championships, Kiara Romero has managed to level up in a big way as a sophomore. Romero enters the NCAA Championships as the No. 2 ranked player in the nation and the No. 3 ranked amateur in the world, having won both the Big Ten individual championship and the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional individual title. The 2025 Big Ten Golfer of the Year, Romero owns a miniscule 69.79 scoring average this season and has shot par-or-better 23 times in 28 rounds, including a whopping 15 sub-70 rounds. Thirteen of those 15 rounds in the 60s have come this spring, including a career-low 10-under 62 in round two of the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional that is the lowest individual round in Oregon history. Romero won the Gold Canyon Regional by eight strokes with a 16-under 200, the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history. She also has drained 124 birdies this season, including 22 at the NCAA Regional, to break her own UO single-season record of 118 set last spring. Romero's back-to-back wins give her four career victories, tying Kendra Little (2008-11) for the all-time program record.
Romero, Ducks Win Way Into NCAA Championships
Oregon booked its ticket to the 2025 NCAA Championships in emphatic fashion at the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional, shooting a combined 15 under across the final two rounds to run away with second win in a row and third of the season. The Ducks won a NCAA Regional for the second time in program history (2022 Albuquerque Regional), finishing nine strokes ahead of host Arizona State and 35 shots clear of the cut line. Oregon was carried by a dominant performance from Kiara Romero, who fired the lowest round in program history with a 10-under 62 in round two and carded the second-lowest 54-hole score ever by a Duck with a 16-under 200 to win the individual title by eight strokes. Romero joined Briana Chacon (2022) as the only Ducks ever to win an NCAA Regional individual title, carding 22 birdies with 11 during her historic second round. Oregon finished with four players in the individual top 15 as Suvichaya Vinijchaitham (74-73-69) tied for eighth, Tong An (71-72-74) placed 11th and Ting-Hsuan Huang (74-75-70) tied for 15th.
