Ducks Earn Top Seed In Match Play
10/27/25 | Women's Golf
ATLANTA – The Oregon women's golf team earned the No. 1 seed in match play at the East Lake Cup on Monday after finishing first in a shortened round of stroke play at East Lake Golf Club.
The tournament's lone round of stroke play was shortened from 18 holes to nine following a weather delay, and the No. 5 Ducks fired an even-par 144 to finish in first place in the four-team field. USC came in second at 3 over with Northwestern (+10) in third and Florida State (+11) in fourth.
Oregon will face Florida State in the first round of match play on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to face the winner of USC-Northwestern in the championship match on Wednesday. The two losing teams on Tuesday will play each other in a consolation match on Wednesday.
UO was led once again by star junior Kiara Romero, who shot 1 under across nine holes to finish second individually. It marked Romero's seventh career runner-up finish and 11th career top-two showing.
How it Happened: Playing the back nine only following the weather delay, Oregon's five-player lineup put together a consistent round with just five combined bogeys while making four birdies. The Ducks' four counting scorers made just three bogeys and combined to shoot 3 under without a bogey through the first six holes.
Romero opened her round with four straight pars before making consecutive birdies on holes 14 and 15. She bounced back from a bogey at the 16th with two more pars to finish at 1 under, just one stroke back of individual champion Dianna Lee of Northwestern.
Romero has now shot par-or-better in 59 of 73 career rounds, and her two birdies on Monday put her just two away from reaching 300 for her career.
Sophomores Tong An and Suvichaya Vinijchaitham each shot even par through nine holes to come in one stroke back of Romero. An was 1 under through eight holes before finishing with a bogey, while Vinijchaitham rattled off nine pars.
Freshmen Shyla Singh and Sophie Han rounded out Oregon's counting scores at 1-over par. Singh made eight pars and one bogey, while Han bounced back from two early bogeys to shoot 1 under across her final six holes.
