Semifinal Win Sends Ducks To Championship Match
10/28/25 | Women's Golf
ATLANTA – The Oregon women's golf team will play in the championship match of the 2025 East Lake Cup after defeating Florida State, 3-2, in the semifinal round on Tuesday at East Lake Golf Club.
Wednesday's championship match will be a rematch of last spring's NCAA semifinals between Oregon and Northwestern. The Wildcats pulled out a narrow 3-2 victory over the Ducks before going on to win the national championship.
Oregon was in control of the match throughout the day on Tuesday against Florida State, getting individual wins from Suvichaya Vinijchaitham (4&3), Sophie Han (3&2) and Kiara Romero (6&5). The trio combined to trail for just two holes throughout the match en route to securing the victory.
"Really proud of our team today coming out on top against a really good opponent," head coach Derek Radley said. "This is such a great event and it simulates the postseason so well, so to get this experience especially for our younger players is really beneficial. We're excited to be moving on to the championship and are certainly excited to have another change to go up against Northwestern tomorrow. We're obviously familiar with them from last spring and are looking forward to a great match in an awesome atmosphere."
How it Happened: Florida State took command of the first match of the day, with Sophia Fullbrook jumping out to a 2 up lead through two holes against UO freshman Shyla Singh. Singh won three of the next four holes to take a 1 up advantage, but Fullbrook bounced back to win five of the next six before going on to win, 4&3, and secure a point for the Seminoles.
Vinijchaitham was second out for the Ducks, facing FSU's Elin Pudas Remler. The two were tied through six holes before Vinijchaitham took control, winning at No. 7 to go 1 up and then winning three out of four holes to get to 4 up through 13. She matched Remler on the next two holes to earn Oregon's first point, 4&3.
Romero was the last Duck out on the course, but the second to clinch a point with a dominant 6&5 victory over Alexandra Gazzoli. Romero won the first two holes and was 2 up through seven before claiming four of the next six holes to put away her opponent on No. 13.
With FSU's Freya Russell out ahead of UO sophomore Tong An, the attention turned to Han as Oregon looked to clinch the match. After losing the first hole, Han won five consecutive to take a 4 up lead through six. She was 5 up through 13 before Haruhi Nakatani won back-to-back holes to shrink Han's lead to 3 up, but a pair of pars at No. 16 secured the match with a 3&2 victory.
