Late Surge Lifts Ducks against Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team earned its third ranked win in a row on Sunday, beating No. 2 Quinnipiac 272.380-271.165 in the first road test of the season.
The Ducks (4-1) trailed after the first half, dropping each event by a narrow margin. Oregon outscored Quinnipiac (5-1) in the toss but trailed going into the team event.
The Ducks, who never led the meet until the very end, scored a 91.830 in the team event, two points higher than Quinnipiac and enough to stretch the winning streak to three meets.
Sunday's win marked the Ducks' first over Quinnipiac since the 2020 season and first on the road since 2019.
How It Happened: The Ducks scored 37.900 in the compulsory event, their highest in the last three meets, but trailed by 0.050 heading into the acro. Cassidy Cu and Angelica Martin kicked things off with a 9.650 and Bethany Glick and Bella Swarthout earned a 9.85 for the second week in a row in the seven-element, but Quinnipiac used a pair of 9.90s to grow their lead.
Trailing 67.500-66.700, UO posted its fourth score of 29.00 or better in pyramid. The Ducks scored a 9.95 in the open pyramid and a 9.85 in the inversion heat, but Quinnipiac once again answered with a pair of 9.90s and a 9.85 to hold a 97.150-96.100 edge at the half.
The Ducks shined in the toss, outpointing QU in the event 28.800-28.550 to cut the deficit to less than a point. Oregon opened the event with a season-high 9.75 in the 450 salto toss and closed strong with a 9.70 in the open toss.
Oregon was narrowly outscored in the tumbling event. Briya Alvarado scored a 9.825 in the aerial solo pass, her third straight score of 9.8 or higher, Morgan Willingham earned a 9.850 in open pass, and Riley Watson posted a 9.675 in her first six-element pass of the season to lead the Ducks in the event.
The Ducks trailed 181.425-180.550 heading into the team event but used a 2.54-point start value advantage to help seal the come-from-behind victory. The Ducks scored a 91.830 in the final event to take the lead by 1.215, Oregon's narrowest margin of victory so far this season.
