
Run Ends in ITA Quarterfinals

BERKELEY, Calif. – It took a tiebreaker to end the tournament run of Oregon's Hinata Furutani and Olivia Symons in the doubles quarterfinal round of the ITA Northwest Regionals on Monday at Hellman Tennis Complex on Monday.
The duo eyed its third straight win after earning a bye in the round of 64 and went up against Lou Baudouin and Irene Riva of Sacramento State with a spot in the semifinals up for grabs. With the teams tied 7-7, the match went into a tiebreaker that went the way of the Hornets' tandem, 7-5.
It marked the deepest run at the annual event for Symons, a redshirt junior, while it was the first ITA Regional for the freshman Furutani. Furutani and Symons boast a 3-1 doubles record together on the young season after also picking up a victory at the Duck Invitational.
The Ducks will next hit the court at the Gonzaga Invitational in Spokane, Wash., which gets underway on Oct. 31.
