Ducks Tie Penn State, 2-2
10/12/25 | Women's Soccer
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Carly Cormack scored twice and Oregon withstood the loss of two starting defenders to emerge with a 2-2 tie in a physical match at Penn State Sunday at Jeffrey Field.
Cormack found the net twice in the first half. She gave Oregon (2-9-4, 0-5-4) a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. Penn State (7-5-3, 3-3-2) tied the match at 1-1 three minutes later, but Cormack picked off a pass in the 25th minute and chipped a shot over the goalkeeper for a 2-1 lead that stood until the final minutes of the game.
In a span of 36 seconds late in the match, the Ducks saw two starting defenders go down with injury, including Jasmine Young who had played in every minute this season, before Penn State converted a penalty kick to knot the game at 2-2.
"We battled against a very talented opponent and scored two nice goals," said coach Tracy Joyner. "Tough for it to end the way it did but I'm proud of our resilience."
How It Happened: The Ducks set the tone early with a quick start on offense.
Just five minutes into the match, Jayde Holley crossed a ball in from the right side. The ball grazed a Penn State defender and deflected to Abella Hunter on the left side. Hunter then centered a pass to Cormack who headed the ball into the right corner of the goal from four yards out.
After Penn State got a goal of its own in the eighth minute to make it 1-1, Cormack jumped on an errant pass to score her second goal of the game in the 25th minute.
Penn State gained possession deep in its own end but when Cormack went to pressure the left fullback, she forced a rushed pass to the goalkeeper that ended up being short. Cormack sprang to the loose ball and chipped it over the goalkeeper from eight yards out.
The Ducks led 2-1 until they lost Young – who had played every minute this season – to an apparent head injury in the 87th minute following a collision in Oregon's penalty box. The game was delayed as medical staff attended to Young.
Just 36 seconds after play resumed, Oregon lost a second starting defender, Selah Simms, who was injured on a play that resulted in the Penn State penalty kick that tied the game.
Notable: Cormack took over the team lead with her second and third goals of the season. It was her first career two-goal game. She also leads the team in points with eight. The goals were the third and fourth of her career … The Holley sisters – Jayde and Savannah – started together for the first time in college … This was the first meeting between Oregon and Penn State.
Quotable:
Head Coach Tracy Joyner on Carly Cormack
"Carly has been fantastic all season and it's nice to see her hard work pay off. She's been a major impact player for us on both sides of the ball."
Up Next: The Ducks return to Eugene for their final three regular season games beginning with Wisconsin Thursday at 6 p.m. (B1G+).
