03/15/24 | Baseball
EUGENE, Ore. – California hit four home runs in game one of a three-game Pac-12 Conference series to pick up a 13-1 win Friday night at PK Park.
How It Happened: Cal jumped on top in the top of the first on a two-run Caleb Lomavita home run off the batter's eye in center field. The Golden Bears added three more runs in the third on another two-run home run and a RBI single after the Bears put a runner on second with a double.
Oregon (11-6, 2-2 Pac-12) cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Ryan Cooney picked up a two-out RBI driving in Drew Smith but Cal responded with a run in the fifth when Lomavita hit his second homer of the game.
Cal (12-3, 4-0 Pac-12) tacked on three runs in the top of the eighth and four more in the ninth to break open the game.
Box Score Notes: Anson Aroz made his first career start in left field, while Justin Cassella made his first start of the season in center field … Brock Moore fanned the first six batters he faced, becoming the first Ducks' pitcher with six consecutive Ks since Jace Stoffal did it vs. UCLA last season (3/10/23) … Smith reached base three times (2-for-3, BB) running his reached-base streak to 40 games.
On Deck: Game two in the series is at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday.
