Ducks’ Win Streak Snapped
02/11/24 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's tennis team battled defending Summit League champion Denver Sunday, but the Pioneers snapped the Ducks' three-game winning streak with a 4-3 win at the Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks failed to grab the doubles point for just the second time in seven matches this season, as Denver earn at both of the top two spots. Jo-Yee Chan and Uxia Martinez Moral were paired at the top spot in the lineup for the first time this season, while Candela Aparisi and Karin Young moved up to No.2 for the first time.
Tilde Jagare made her spring debut in both the singles and doubles lineups, being paired with Sophie Luescher at third doubles.
Aparisi evened the score at a point apiece after her straight-set win at No. 5, but Denver then won the next two singles matches to climb within a point of victory at 3-1.
UO battled to even the score at 3-3 after Martinez Moral and Young each earned straight-set wins, leaving the match to be decided in a third set at sixth singles. Young remained perfect on the spring season, improving to 4-0.
Denver's Alice Otis outlasted Jagare, 6-3, 4-6, 2-6, to clinch the decisive point for her side. It snapped UO's three-match winning streak and marked the Ducks' first home loss of the season (3-1).
Chan played at No. 2 singles for the first time in her career after winning her last three matches at third singles.
Oregon heads to Boise for two matches, the first against Minnesota on Saturday and at Boise State on Sunday.
