SEATTLE – Oregon and Washington played a tight match into the 84th minute before a pair of late goals by the Huskies resulted in a 3-0 defeat for the Ducks on a rainy Sunday at Husky Soccer Stadium.
How It Happened: The Huskies (10-5-2, 7-4-0) scored in the 11th minute, but were kept in check by the Ducks for the remainder of the half. Four of Washington' eight first-half shots came in the opening 11 minutes. However, Oregon (5-11-2, 1-8-2) yielded just four more shots the remainder of the period.
The Ducks kept the score close deep into the match thanks to a season-high six saves by goalkeeper Anna Solomon, five of which came in the middle of a heavy rainstorm in the second half.
Haley McWhirter attempted two shots, while Taylor Bryan and Carly Cormack each had one in the Ducks' final game of the 2024 season.
Looking Ahead: Despite Sunday's loss, Oregon can look to build on season that saw the Ducks win five more games than the year before.
The Ducks also established a solid home field advantage. Included in Oregon's 4-3-2 mark at Papé Field was a 1-1 tie with No. 5 Michigan State and a 2-1 loss to No. 22 UCLA where the Ducks led into the 77th minute before a penalty kick on the Ducks shifted the momentum to the Bruins.
Oregon showed improvement on both ends of the field. The Ducks were plus-6 in the goals scored category over 2023, but more impressively the Ducks allowed 15 fewer goals this season. The 2024 squad was also plus-6 in assists, plus-18 in points and plus-47 in shots.
After being picked to finish last in the season in the Big Ten preseason poll, Oregon tied for 15th.
