Ducks Fall at No. 14 Iowa
10/20/24 | Women's Soccer
IOWA CITY, Iowa – No. 14 Iowa scored twice in each half as the Ducks dropped a 4-0 decision to the Hawkeyes Sunday at Iowa Soccer Complex.
How It Happened: The Hawkeyes (13-1-3, 8-1-1) scored in the 18th and 35th minutes to take a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Ducks (5-10-2, 1-7-2) were limited to two shots in the first half, but both came in the later stages of the period as Oregon's substitutes looked to spark a rally. Ariane Haysman Boaler fired off a shot less than 30 seconds after she checked into the match, while Lauren Kenny came off the bench and got a shot off in the 28th minute.
The Ducks kept attacking in the second half. Off of a free kick in the 66th minute, Haley McWhirter drove a hard strike on frame but Iowa's goalkeeper saved it.
Grace Mensah, Carly Cormack and Haysman Boaler also recorded shots in the second half.
Iowa added a goal in the 54th minute and another late in the second half in the first-ever match between the two programs.
Making her second start at goalkeeper in the last four games, Anna Solomon made five saves.
Notable: Haysman Boaler's two shots were a season best, while Cormack's two attempts matched her season high. … Sunday's match was the 89th career cap for Lucy Green. If she plays next Sunday at Washington, the Ole Miss transfer will join the rare 90-match club. For perspective, in UO program history, only two Ducks have reached 90 career matches – Chardonnay Curran (2017-21) and Zoe Hasenauer (2018-22). Both played in 92 career games in an Oregon uniform.
Up Next: Oregon wraps up the 2024 season next Sunday at Washington (1 p.m., B1G+).
