Ducks Drop Match at No. 5 UCLA
10/08/23 | Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – Oregon dropped a tough 4-0 decision to No. 5 UCLA Sunday at Annenberg Stadium.
The Bruins (11-1-0, 5-0-0) scored twice in both halves for their eighth straight win.
The Ducks (0-11-2, 0-5-0) came into the match having played the toughest schedule in the Pac-12 and the 11th most difficult schedule in the NCAA. They will likely move into the top 10 following Sunday's road match at the defending NCAA champions.
How It Happened: UCLA scored in the 16th and 24th minutes in the first half. The Bruins added second half goals in the 46th and 72nd minutes.
Oregon had a terrific chance to score just before halftime when a deflected ball found its way to Ajanae Respass in UCLA's box but her shot caromed off the side of a Bruin defender.
Maddy Goldberg started in goal for the Ducks and had five saves, while Leah Parsons came on in relief at halftime and made four saves.
Notable: Defender Anna Phillips made her 49th consecutive start. … Defender Ainsley Fink made her first start of 2023. … The Bruins have 13 seniors on their roster, compared to one for Oregon.
Quotable:
UO coach Graeme Abel
"UCLA are a talented and experienced side, but at the same time, we've just got to stop giving up an early goal and putting ourselves in a hole."
Up Next: Oregon hosts Arizona State Friday at 7 p.m. (Pac-12 Live Stream).
