Ducks Close Regular Season at No. 1 Baylor

The No. 2 Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team finished closes out its regular season in a rematch against No. 1 Baylor in Waco, Texas, on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.
WACO, Texas - The No. 2 Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team closes out its regular season in a rematch at No. 1 Baylor on Sunday, April 7, starting at 10 a.m. The Bears have gotten the best of the Ducks in nine of the last 10 meetings, including a 285.150-277.355 victory at Matthew Knight Arena earlier this season.
The Ducks' last victory over Baylor came at Matthew Knight Arena in 2017 when UO won five of six events to upset the top-ranked Bears.

Compulsory – Oregon and Baylor have a long shared history against one another. The Bears hold a slim 13-11 series advantage over the Ducks, but UO won the first 11 meetings between the two squads. Baylor's current head coach, Felecia Mulkey, started the acrobatics and tumbling program at Oregon, leading the Ducks to four consecutive NCATA championships during her five-year tenure, including coaching current UO head coach Keenyn Won while she was a student-athlete.
Acro – Oregon is coming off one of its biggest wins of the season against No. 3 Azusa Pacific. The Ducks defeated the Cougars by over 10 points, 279.620-269.255, at Matthew Knight Arena on March 30. UO registered its second-highest meet score in the top-three rematch, while scoring its season-best in the two squad's first meeting, 280.900-279.875, at Azusa Pacific on March 12.
Pyramid – The Ducks scored season-bests in four different heats vs. Azusa Pacific on March 30, with their best score of the night coming in the open pyramid with a 9.95. Seniors Casi Jackson, Caroline Matos and Samantha Little and sophomores Calyx Hampton and Addie Lacewell competed in the event to help the Ducks to a total pyramid score of 29.65 - the second-highest score this season.
Toss - Jackson, Little, Matos, Hampton, and sophomore Mikaela Moore led the Ducks to another season-high of 9.85 in the open toss. The Ducks also scored a season-best of 9.85 in the seven-element acro heat with Lacewell, Hampton, senior Hannah Blair, and freshman Kaylene Iriye, while Blair, Jackson and junior Makenna Jarman earned a fourth season-high with a 9.400 in the triple pass.
Tumbling – Throughout the season, Blair and junior Payton Coon have led the Ducks in the tumbling event. Blair has scored the highest tumbling heat score in the open pass four times this season with her season-best of 9.900 coming at Azusa Pacific on March 12. Meanwhile, Coon has tallied the highest heat score in the six-element pass three times this season, recording her season-high of 9.800 vs. Arizona Christian on Feb. 23.
Team – The Ducks have seen an overall improvement of 8.77 points in their team event throughout the 2019 season. The Ducks earned a season-high of 98.40 in the team event at Azusa Pacific on March 12 and came close again with a 98.37 in their rematch against APU on March 30, improving vastly from their low of 89.63 at Quinnipiac on Feb. 17.
TEAMMATE TO COACH
Taylor Galvin transitioned from teammate to coach this season. Galvin was named Oregon's new assistant coach on July 31, 2018, after graduating from Oregon in June 2018. She helped the Ducks to reach the NCATA Championships three times, while compiling a 31-13 career record over that span. Galvin was a three-time All-American (2016-18), two-time open tumbling champion and two-time 6-element tumbling pass national champion (2016 & 2017). She captured her second open tumbling national title in 2018 behind a perfect score of 10.00. As a senior, Galvin was twice named the NCATA Player of the Week.
POLL POSITION
The Ducks are ranked second in the latest NCATA National Championship Team Rankings. The rankings, released on March 27, show where the teams stand in terms of postseason seeding heading into the final week of competition. Final rankings and NCATA tournament seeding will be released on Monday, April 15.
NCATA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The NCATA National Championship will be held at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, from April 25-27. Tickets are currently on sale on thencata.org.
SCOUTING REPORT
This will be second time this year the Ducks and Bears square off, completing their home-and-home series. Baylor won the first meet this season in Eugene, 285.150-277.755, on March 3. Since that meeting, Baylor has won its last three meets to remain perfect on the year with an 8-0 record. The Bears continue to progress as the season winds down, recording a season-high 288.310 in their most recent meet against No. 7 Hawaii Pacific and Arizona Christian.
STORIED HISTORY
Since the NCATA's inception in 2010, the Ducks have won four of eight NCATA National Championships. In that eight-year span, UO tallied a 70-15 meet record, including a total of 46 individual event titles.
