Ducks Defeat Cal State Fullerton By Lone Goal
09/11/16 | Women's Soccer
FULLERTON, Calif. – The Oregon women's soccer team defeated Cal State Fullerton 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Titans Stadium.
With the win, the Ducks' record moves to 6-1-1 this season. The Titans fell to 3-4.
With the lone goal Sunday, Oregon surpassed the goal total from all of the 2015 season at 15.
The all-time series between the Ducks and Titans is now advantage Oregon, 2-1-0.
How it Happened: With just one minute left to go in the second half, sophomore Bayley Bruner scored her first goal of the season off double assists by redshirt junior Shaylee Miner and sophomore Sofia Chambers. This was Miner's first time seeing action this season – making quite the impression with being credited an assist. The stat is a first for Chambers as well.
Bruner's goal was all the Ducks needed to solidify the 1-0 victory.
On the night, Oregon had 11 shots (one on goal) to Cal State Fullerton's seven attempts (one on goal).
Sophomore Marissa Everett, junior Abby Morrow, Chambers and Bruner all contributed two shots each to the Ducks' total, while freshman Jessica Yu, senior Marlo Sweatman and junior Miranda Schulz all added one.
In goal, junior Halla Hinriksdottir made one save. The Mosfellsbaer, Iceland native's record moves to 2-0-0.
What it Means: With the win, the Ducks' split their weekend in Fullerton, Calif. after falling to the UC Irvine Anteaters 3-2 on Friday. The loss could help refocus the team as they prepare for one final non-conference game at home before going on the road at Stanford to open Pac-12 play.
Oregon surpassed last season's goal total in just eight games. The Ducks' 6-1-1 record is its best since the 2005 squad opened the year 8-1-1.

Overall thoughts…
"I'm very happy with that great response from our team. Overall, it was a tactical battle in the first half and Fullerton did a good job containing our offense. In the second half, we were able to be a little more dangerous in the final third. The goal was a good heads up play by Sofia and great service by Shaylee for the finish by Bayley. I'm happy with the effort and fight. We're looking forward to coming back home to protect Papé Field for some Monday night futbol."
Looking Ahead: The Ducks have eight days off before hosting Portland on Monday, Sept. 19 for the final non-conference game of the season. First touch is set to begin at 6 p.m. Fans, this will be one match-up you don't want to miss.
