
Reed and Healy Lead Ducks To Series Win

STANFORD, Calif. – Freshman Jake Reed pitched seven shutout innings, and
Ryon Healy homered as No. 16 Oregon claimed the series win with a 5-0
shutout of No. 6 Stanford at Sunken Diamond on Saturday afternoon.
Oregon (24-9, 10-4) won its seventh series of the season and its fourth against a ranked team. The Ducks have now won four consecutive Pac-12 series, including three straight against top-25 opponents.
The win over the Cardinal (21-9, 4-7) also marked the 600th Division I career victory for head coach George Horton.
Reed (4-2) pitched seven shutout innings in
the win, allowing just two hits, issuing two walks and striking out two.
The La Mesa, Calif., native has recorded three wins in his last three
starts, and UO is now 7-2 when Reed starts.
In four innings on the hill, Stanford starter Brett Mooneyham (5-3)
surrendered five runs (four earned) on four hits and four walks, while
still managing to strike out eight (five looking).
Jeff Gold closed the game for Oregon, shutting out Stanford on one hit while striking out three in two innings.
Oregon's lead expanded to 5-0 in the fourth as Healy launched a two-out homer over the wall in left center. Healy's second home run of the year brought in J.J. Altobelli, who was
issued a two-out walk to start UO's rally, and Aaron Payne, who reached
on a two-out bunt single.
After striking out five in the first two innings, Mooneyham got roughed
up in the top of third loading the bases as Payne lined a one-out double
down the left field line before the left-hander plunked Healy and
walked Brett Thomas. Mooneyham then walked in a run by issuing a walk to
Kyle Garlick as UO took a 1-0 lead, before a passed ball allowed Healy
to score a second run.
Healy finished his day with a 3-for-4 performance, driving in three runs
and scoring two runs, while Payne finished his day 3-for-5 with two
runs scored.
Sahil Bloom and Garrett Hughes combined to shut out Oregon for the final
five innings, allowing just three hits and striking two.
The series finale is scheduled for a noon first pitch from Sunken Diamond tomorrow.
Notes: Head coach George Horton recorded his 600th career Division I
victory…Oregon improves to 10-2 against ranked opponents…for the second
time in the all-time series, Oregon shut out Stanford (7-0, 1961)…Oregon
is now 7-2 when Reed gets the start on the mound… the Ducks have taken
the series from Stanford for three consecutive years (2010-12…the Ducks
shut out their fourth opponent of the year.
