10/17/09 | Women's Soccer
Oregon State scored both of its goals in the 83rd minute en route to a 2-0 home win over the University of Oregon soccer team in a Civil War match-up Friday in Corvallis. The Ducks dropped to 0-3 in Pac-10 Conference play with the loss, 8-5-1 on the season.
The Beavers earned their first league victory, improving to 1-2 in conference play and 9-4-1 overall.
"Oregon State played very hard and defended their home turf," head coach Tara Erickson said. "It was a battle back and forth for the game, and they played physical."
OSU's Chelsea Buckland scored the match's first goal, assisted by Melissa Peck and Melinda Ingalls. Thirty-six seconds later the Beavers scored again, this time it was Ashley Seal assisted by Peck and Ingalls.
Juniors Kirstie Kuhns and Jen Stoltenberg each had three shots in the match, while senior Teresa Bowns and freshman Scout Libke added a shot apiece. Two of Kuhns' shots were on goal and Bowns' shot was on target.
Senior goalkeeper Jessie Proulx had one save and two goals allowed in playing the full 90 minutes. It was her first match back after missing all of last season with an injury. Her last game as a Duck was a 3-0 home loss to California in a match played Nov. 11, 2007.
OSU was led offensively by Seal who had five shots, two on goal. Buckland added two shots, while six other players recorded at least one shot for the Beavers. OSU goalkeeper Ashley Wood had three saves in the full 90 minutes.
Oregon (8-5-1, 0-3-0) will return to the field next week with road matches against UCLA and USC. The Ducks will face the Bruins on Friday at 7 p.m. (PT), before Sunday's 1 p.m. contest with the Trojans.
