Here We Go
Year five under head coach Dan Lanning officially gets underway for the Oregon football team when the Ducks host Boise State in Autzen Stadium. The Ducks enter 2026 at No. 2 in the Associated Press and coaches' polls, the highest preseason ranking in program history. Boise State visits Autzen Stadium for the second time in the last three years, after Oregon claimed its first-ever win over the Broncos in a 37-34 thriller in 2024.

Elite Ducks
Oregon has been one of the nation's best teams since head coach Dan Lanning took over, reaching double-digit wins in all four seasons under Lanning and each of the last five. The Ducks' 48-8 overall record since 2022 is tied with Ohio State for second-best in the nation, trailing only Georgia (51-6), and they lead the country in wins and winning percentage since 2023 (38-5, .884). Oregon is the only FBS team to reach 13 wins in each of the last two years, doing so for the third time in program history and in back-to-back seasons for the first time after going 13-2 in 2025. Lanning is already No. 4 in program history with 48 wins, tied for second-most among active FBS head coaches since 2022.

The Ducks have been historically dominant in season openers, carrying a 93-33-4 all-time record in the first game of the season and a 70-9-2 mark in home openers. UO has won its last three season openers as well as five of its last six and 12 of its last 14. The Ducks have won 15 straight season openers at home and 21 straight home openers after a 59-13 win over Montana State to kick off 2025.

Home Cookin'
Oregon has been one of the most dominant teams in the nation at home over the last decade-plus, particularly in nonconference matchups. The Ducks enter 2026 with college football's longest active nonconference home winning streak at 38 games, after going 4-0 in such games in 2025. UO went 3-0 in nonconference play during the regular season before pushing its streak to 38 games with a 51-34 win over No. 24 James Madison in the opening round of the College Football Playoff, the first-ever CFP game in Autzen Stadium. Oregon has not lost a nonconference home game since Sept. 20, 2008 - a 37-32 loss to Boise State - and is a dominant 101-16-3 all-time in nonconference games in Autzen Stadium.

UO is 101-12 at home since the start of 2009, good for a .894 winning percentage that ranks third in college football in that stretch. Oregon is 45-2 (.957) at home since an overtime loss to Stanford on Sept. 22, 2018, a span that included 23 straight home wins to match the longest home win streak in program history. The Ducks are 54-4 at home since 2017, ranking fourth nationally with a .931 winning percentage in that span. Oregon owns a stellar 26-2 record at home since Dan Lanning took over in 2022, also ranking fourth in the country with a .929 winning percentage.

Yes, There's Moore
Oregon enters 2026 with the luxury of having one of the nation's most talented and experienced starting quarterbacks under center. After shining for the Ducks in his first season as the starter in 2025, QB Dante Moore opted to pass up a likely top-five selection in the 2026 NFL Draft to run it back for one more season in Eugene. Moore was terrific while starting all 15 games last season, ranking fourth nationally with a 71.8 completion percentage while throwing for 3,565 yards and 30 touchdowns against just 10 interceptions. He also ranked eighth nationally in passer rating at 163.72. Moore was named a preseason first-team all-American by the Associated Press going into 2026.

Oregon opens 2026 at No. 2 in both the Associated Press and the coaches' polls, earning the highest preseason rankings in program history. The Ducks have now opened in the top 10 in each of the last three seasons, and they have been in the preseason top 25 in nine consecutive years. UO has appeared in the AP top 10 in 48 consecutive polls dating back to Week 3 of the 2023 season, and has been in the top 25 of the AP poll in every release since Week 2 of the 2022 season. Oregon came in at No. 5 in the final College Football Playoff rankings of 2025, appearing in the top 10 in each of the last 17 releases of the CFP rankings. The Ducks are scheduled to face four teams in the initial AP top 25 - No. 1 Ohio State, No. 14 USC, No. 16 Michigan and No. 17 Washington.

Oregon is No. 1 in the country since 2022 in points per game (38.7), touchdowns scored (283), passing touchdowns (140), completion percentage (73.4) and touchdown-to-interception ratio (4.67), while also ranking second nationally in completions (1,353), fewest sacks allowed (50), total first downs (1,371), third-down conversion percentage (47.9) and passer rating (169.4). UO is also No. 3 in that span in yards per rush (5.3) and tied for fifth in rushing touchdowns (132). Oregon's consistently elite offense over the last four years is made more impressive by the fact the Ducks have had two different offensive coordinators, and are on to their third with former co-OC Drew Mehringer taking over as OC in 2026.

Relentless D
Fueled by its elite passing defense, the Ducks boasted one of the nation's best defenses as a whole in 2025. The Ducks were No. 7 nationally in total defense (273.7 YPG) and No. 12 in scoring defense (17.9 PPG) while also ranking sixth in total yards allowed per play (4.40). The Ducks held nine of 15 opponents to 14 points or less, as well as five opponents to 10 points or less, and kept two opponents (Oklahoma State, Texas Tech) out of the end zone entirely. Oregon is looking to continue its upward trend on the defensive side since head coach Dan Lanning took over in 2022, and the Ducks will do so under a new defensive coordinator in 2026 as Chris Hampton takes over direction of the defense after spending the last three seasons as the co-defensive coordinator.

Last Time vs. Boise State
The 2026 season opener marks the second matchup in the last three years against Oregon and Boise State. The Ducks claimed their first-ever win over the Broncos in a back-and-forth thriller on Sept. 7, 2024, in Autzen Stadium, winning 37-34 on a field goal as time expired. After a 59-yard touchdown pass from Dillon Gabriel to Traeshon Holden tied the game early in the third quarter, an 85-yard punt return touchdown by Tez Johnson gave Oregon a 27-20 lead entering the fourth. Boise State responded with back-to-back touchdowns to regain the lead, but the Ducks' special teams again came up huge with a 100-yard kickoff return by Noah Whittington that resulted in a touchdown after Jayden Limar recovered a fumble in the end zone. The Ducks' defense came up with a couple huge stops in the fourth quarter to set the stage for kicker Atticus Sappington, who drilled a 25-yard field goal as time expired to give the Ducks the victory. Among current Ducks who played in that game, Evan Stewart shined with five receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown, Devon Jackson had five tackles, a pass breakup and half a TFL, Teitum Tuioti made three tackles and broke up a pass, and Matayo Uiagalelei had two tackles.
