
Ducks Fall Short In Final Road Contest

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Oregon lacrosse team scored back-to-back goals to get within two midway through the second quarter of its final road game of the season on Sunday, but Rutgers responded with 14 consecutive scores to pull away in a 21-7 victory at SHI Stadium.Â
The Ducks (6-9, 0-7 Big Ten) will return home to close the 2026 regular season against USC on Saturday at Papé Field.
How it Happened: Rutgers (10-5, 4-2 Big Ten) took a 2-0 lead through the game's first four minutes before Lyla Hurley found Emma Ing for a goal to the get the Ducks on the board. The Scarlet Knights pushed their lead to 3-1 with 3:43 to go in the first, but Gabby Santucci drove and scored with just over a minute remaining in the period to make it a one-goal game.Â
Goalkeeper Francesca Viteritti impressed in the opening period with four saves, including three in the span of 12 seconds in a hectic sequence just before Oregon's first goal of the game.Â
Rutgers came out hot in the second quarter with three straight goals to push its lead to 6-2, but Oregon responded with back-back-goals by Avery Young and Hurley in the span of just 17 seconds. After Young, a New Jersey native, drove and finished at the net, Anna Simmons won a battle for the ensuing draw control and found Hurley on a breakaway to make it a 6-4 game.Â
Oregon was unable to maintain that momentum as Rutgers scored four unanswered goals to take a 10-4 lead into halftime. The Scarlet Knights kept their foot on the gas out of the break, extending their consecutive goal streak to 14 with eight in the third quarter and two more to start the fourth.
The Ducks did not go down without a fight, ending the Rutgers run as Simmons caused a turnover and found Young on a fastbreak for a goal. Hurley followed with her second goal of the game a couple minutes later on an assist from Lily Fortin, and Lexi Jenkins made it three straight goals for Oregon with her first of the game. Rutgers added one final goal with 3:11 remaining as the Scarlet Knights secured the Big Ten Conference victory.Â
Notable: Viteritti made a career-high 11 saves while facing a career-high 44 shots ... Young recorded a goal for the fifth game in a row and scored multiple goals for the fifth time this season ... Hurley notched multiple goals for the fifth time this season ... Simmons had multiple assists for the third time this season and also matched her season high with four ground balls ... Liv Kozitza caused a career-high three turnovers while also grabbing four ground balls.Â
