Offensive Success Leads Ducks to Second Win
02/14/26 | Women's Lacrosse
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Oregon women's lacrosse team earned its second victory of the season on Saturday, taking down FDU in a dominant 16-5 win. Eleven Ducks (2-0) contributed to the offensive onslaught, led by sophomore midfielder Liv Kozitza who matched a career high with three goals. Oregon was successful in every phase of the game en route to a triumphant finish.
"Today was such an awesome team win," head coach Jessica Drummond said. "Everyone took care of what they needed to do and did their job on the field, which was reflected on the scoreboard. I'm very proud of every player for taking advantage of their opportunity today and making an impact."
How It Happened:
The Ducks took the lead almost instantly, with Big Ten Midfielder of the Week Anna Simmons netting her first goal just 30 seconds into the game. Five more Oregon scores to FDU's one in the first quarter set the tone for the offense.
Riley Taylor, Rachel Pallo and Lexi Jenkins each scored their first goals of the day in the second quarter, and Kozitza added her second. After one score in the first, sophomore goalie Kate Shields shut out the knights for the rest of the half, making four saves in the cage.
FDU opened the second half with a goal to make the score 10-2 as Francesca Viteritti replaced Shields in goal for the Ducks. Three more Ducks added their first goals of the season in the third quarter and Kozitza netted her third of the day on an assist from Kylee Manser to round out her hat trick.
Freshman keeper Kaley Gunning made her first appearance as a Duck covering the goal for the fourth quarter. The trio of Oregon goalies held FDU to just five goals while facing 19 shots throughout the game. Lilly Fortin added a pair of scores in the final period, joining Simmons and Jenkins who finished with two goals apiece.
Simmons and senior transfer Shelby Hahn headlined defensive efforts by the Ducks as they caused three turnovers contributing to the teams' 11 total. Simmons also matched team-leading Kozitza's four draw controls. Fortin and Jenkins added three each and Oregon won 16 draws to FDU's six.
Up Next: The Ducks continue their California series on Monday, Feb. 16 as they face San Diego State.
