
Ducks Improve to 3-0 After SoCal Sweep

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Oregon women's lacrosse took Southern California by storm to remain unbeaten early in the 2026 season, completing a 2-0 road trip with a 12-10 win at San Diego State on Monday at Aztec Field. Led by six goals from Emma Ing, the Ducks (3-0) were unphased by the wind and rain as they secured the win over the Aztecs (1-2).
The Ducks return from California sporting a perfect record to start the season for the third time under head coach Jessica Drummond. A combination of relentless offense and gritty defense helped Oregon earn its second win over SDSU in two years.
"What a battle out there today," Drummond said. "We said we were bringing the storm this weekend and we definitely felt it today. Today's win proves that the Ducks love the rain. I'm so proud of our determination. We never stopped and pushed our level of play in the second half to come out with the win."
The Ducks scored a combined 28 goals in their California series, after taking down FDU in a neutral-site match hosted by the Aztecs on Saturday. Ing led the attack for Oregon with her career-best six scores, while Avery Young, Anna Simmons, Liv Kozitza and Lilly Fortin contributed to the final score.
How It Happened: Young opened the game with a pair of scores in the first five minutes, her first goals of the season after missing the majority of last year with an injury.
San Diego State answered with four goals and held the lead entering the second quarter. The Aztecs kept hold of the lead for the period as the Ducks fought to keep the game within a score. Ing scored her fourth goal to bring the score to an eight-goal tie at the end of the third.
Liv Kozitza took the next shot for the Ducks scoring on an assist from Fortin and shifting the momentum in Oregon's favor. Ing capped the third quarter with another goal marking a new career best to set Oregon ahead 10-8. The senior added a one more score in the fourth, extending the Ducks' lead to 11-9. Her six goals were just one shy of equaling the program record, matched by Simmons last year.
Fortin sealed the win for Oregon scoring her first career goal off an assist from Simmons with two minutes remaining in the game.
Oregon's defense remained a steady force led by sophomore goalkeeper Kate Shields who made seven saves while facing 21 shots in 60 minutes of play, earning her third win of the season. Hailey Russell was instrumental, forcing three Aztec turnovers.
