
Men's Tennis Suffers First Loss of the Season

STANFORD, Calif. — Oregon came up just short Friday afternoon, falling 4–3 to Rice in the opening match of the ITA Kickoff.
The Ducks (5–1) battled through a back-and-forth day that wasn't decided until the final singles match, despite winning four of six singles courts.
Rice claimed the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Oregon saw a dominant performance at No. 3 doubles, where Vlad Breazu and Declan Galligan rolled to a 6–0 victory.
In singles play, Breazu set the tone at the top of the lineup, rallying for a 6–3, 4–6, 6–1 win over Petro Kuzmenok at No. 1. Oregon also picked up straight-set victories at Nos. 5 and 6, with Lachlan Robertson defeating Gabriel Porras 7–5, 6–3 and Russell Soohoo earning a 6–2, 6–3 win over Noey Do.
Rice countered with three-set wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 to secure the match. The match was clinched at No. 4, where Kabeer Kapasi edged Matthew Burton 1–6, 7–5, 6–4 to give the Owls the decisive fourth point.
Oregon will look to bounce back on Saturday morning against Utah at 9 a.m. PT.
