Football Practice Report: Aug. 5
08/05/25 | Football
The Ducks were in full pads for the first time this preseason when they hit the field Tuesday.
Preseason practice continued Tuesday for the Oregon football team, with the Ducks inside Autzen Stadium and in full pads for the first time this month.
The team will practice again Wednesday before taking a day off, then resuming workouts Friday.
Following Tuesday's practice, head coach Dan Lanning addressed local media, as did tight end Jamari Johnson and defensive back Ify Obidegwu. Video of those interviews is embedded below.

Some highlights from coach Lanning …
On Tuesday's practice in full pads: "Really competitive practice today. Finished out with some red area; offense got the upper hand today in that and goal line. Some explosive plays showed up; haven't seen a lot of those through fall camp (but) saw some today, which was a real positive. Defense is doing a great job attacking the ball."
On the development of Obidegwu since last season: "More than anything, understanding. Knowing what he's gonna do, how he needs to execute on the field, what his job is. But yeah, he has really special traits. He could be a special player for us."
On what Johnson adds to the tight end rotation as a veteran transfer: "It was more about adding a player we thought added value, and Jamari certainly adds value. He's got length, he's a big body, catches the ball really well. I think there's a pick-up that he has to continue to figure out like, what are we doing in the offense? And as he picks that up, he takes great steps forward. But his size and athleticism is unique for that position."
