Six conference champions will be crowned on day one of the meet.
EUGENE, Ore. – The postseason begins this weekend with the 2025 Big Ten Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field. The meet begins Friday at 12 p.m. with the start of the combined events and the men's hammer, the first of six finals on day one.
Including the men's hammer, conference champions will be crowned in the men's and women's 10,000 meters, men's pole vault, men's javelin and women's hammer. Running events are scheduled to start at 5:36 p.m. with preliminary rounds of the 200 meters, 1500 meters and 400-meter hurdles. The 10K will begin at 8:05 p.m. with the men's race followed by the women's final at 8:45 p.m.
The Big Ten Championships is the first of two postseason meets to be contested at Hayward Field this season, along with the NCAA Championships beginning June 11. Tickets for both postseason meets are currently on sale. Oregon students can claim their tickets though the GoDucks app to attend.
The UO women enter the Big Ten weekend ranked 1-2 at 10,000 meters with Diana Cherotich and Juliet Cherubet, respectively. Cherotich broke the Oregon school record with her 31:45.22 performance at the Stanford Invitational (April 4) and currently ranks third nationally in the event.
On the men's side of the 10,000 meters, the Ducks have five men in the top 10 of the Big Ten standings. Aiden Smith (28:21.32), Quincy Norman (28:27.08) and Abdel Laadjel (28:29.17) all cracked the program top-10 list earlier this season.
Kyle Gibbs and Pat Vialva lead the Ducks' charge in the men's pole vault and javelin, respectively. Gibbs became the eighth man in program history to clear 18 feet at the Battle at the Beach in early April and goes into the Big Ten Championships tied for third in the conference. Vialva has a season-best measure of 69.16m/226-11 which ranks seventh in the Big Ten.
Annika Williams, fourth in the heptathlon at last year's Pac-12 Championships, is set to take on the two-day, seven-event competition for the first time this season. Koby Kessler and Aiden Carter both topped 7,200 points earlier this season at the Bryan Clay Multis which put them fifth and sixth, respectively, in the conference standings ahead of this weekend's decathlon.
Day one of the decathlon consists of the 100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters. In the heptathlon, the opening day includes the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters.
The Men and Women of Oregon swept the Big Ten Indoor titles in March and the UO women have two legs of a potential conference triple crown thanks to their victory at the Big Ten Cross Country meet in November.
Along with the Ducks at No. 8, the women's Big Ten field features six teams ranked in the top 25 of the most recent USTFCCCA poll. That list also includes top-ranked USC, No. 9 Washington, No. 16 UCLA, No. 18 Illinois and No. 20 Nebraska. The UO men enter the conference meet unranked, as they were going into the indoor meet, and will face a field featured No. 1 USC, No. 4 Nebraska, No. 6 Minnesota, No. 18 Wisconsin and No. 19 Iowa.
This year marks the 11th time Oregon will host the conference meet at Hayward Field, and the first time as a member of the Big Ten. The Ducks previously hosted the Pac-12—and its prior iterations—meets in 1967, 1973, 1982, 1992, 2000, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2017 and 2022.
The first two days of the 2025 Big Ten Championships will stream on Big Ten Plus and RunnerSpace. The Big Ten Network (12:30 p.m.) will televise the final day of the conference meet with an emphasis on the running finals. Sunday's field events will be streamed on B1G+ and RunnerSpace.
Due to limited parking space around Hayward Field and with the coinciding NCAA Softball Regional at Jane Sanders Stadium, fans are strongly encouraged to utilize the free shuttle service that will run from the Autzen Stadium East parking lot to 15th and Agate, just out front of Hayward Field. Shuttles will run every 30 minutes.
