Ducks Post Season High in Top-Two Matchup
04/05/25 | Acrobatics & Tumbling
WACO, Texas – The Oregon acrobatics and tumbling ended the regular season with its highest score of the campaign and scored a perfect 10.0 in the open pyramid, but the No. 2 Ducks ultimately fell to No. 1 Baylor, 287.795-283.305, in front of the largest crowd in NCATA history.
"There's so much to be proud of today," Susnara said. "Lots to be proud of, and some little things we could have done better. That puts us in a good position to know what to work on heading into National Championships."
The Ducks (5-2) set new season highs in four events and their final total was the highest since the 2021 season and best under head coach Taylor Susnara, but Baylor (9-0) tallied a program-record five 10.0s, a mark that proved to be insurmountable.
"We're ready to get back to Eugene and get back to work," Susnara added.
How It Happened: Led by a 9.825 in both the pyramid and toss heats, the Ducks opened the meet with a 37.450 in the compulsory event but trailed heading into acro, 38.500-37.450.
Oregon scored a 29.30 in the second event of the afternoon, its highest mark since 2021 and the highest under Coach Susnara. Freshman duo Cassidy Cu and Angelica Martin opened acro with a 9.90 in five-element before Bethany Glick and Bella Swarthout earned the same mark in the seven-element. Baylor scored a pair of perfect 10.0s, however, and led 68.200-66.750 after two events.
The pyramid was highlighted by Oregon's perfect 10.000 in the open heat, from the group of Blessyn McMorris, Brylie Hoover, Bella Swarthout, Emily Rezner and Selah Bell. It was the second time the group earned a perfect score this season, the first coming in the first meeting with Baylor. The Ducks scored a 29.750 in the event, the highest tally since the 2022 season, but Baylor notched three perfect scores to hold a 98.200-96.500 edge at the half.
UO scored a 29.100 in toss out of the break, its second time scoring over 29.00 this season, but were narrowly outpointed by the Bears. Open toss led the way with a 9.850.
Led by a 9.925 by Riley Watson, a 9.900 from Morgan Willingham and a 9.800 from Briya Alvarado, the Ducks shined brightest in tumbling. Oregon totaled a 58.275, the highest mark in the event since the 2017 season. The Ducks hit on all six heats, but were still narrowly outpointed by Baylor.
Oregon trailed 186.225-183.875 heading into team event. The Ducks posted their best score of the season to close the meet, 99.430, which doubled as the program's highest since 2018, but were once again outpointed by Baylor.
Up Next: The Ducks will await their seeding for the 2025 NCATA Championships. Postseason competition begins on April 24 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
