Ducks Come Up Short in National Championship
04/26/25 | Acrobatics & Tumbling
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team fell to top-seeded Baylor in the NCATA National Championship meet on Saturday night in the Elmen Center, 276.015-266.355.
The Ducks (7-3) put up strong scores across the board but were narrowly outpointed in all six events, allowing Baylor (12-0) to claim its 10th-consecutive national title.
Oregon fell behind after compulsory round but stayed within reach of the Bears for the entirety of the meet. The Ducks trailed by 1.65 points at the half and 2.10 heading into team event, giving the nine-time defending champs a run for their money in the finale.
Oregon's seven wins during the 2025 season mark the most in a single year since the 2017 campaign when the Ducks finished 8-2. UO reached new heights this season under coach Taylor Susnara, as its high scores in acro, tumbling, team event and team total were the highest during her four-year tenure.
How It Happened: A 9.700 in compulsory pyramid and a 9.675 in compulsory toss led the way for the Ducks in the first event. Baylor outpointed the Ducks in all four heats to take a 37.500-36.425 lead.
As has been the case all weekend, UO shined in five- and seven-element acro. Cassidy Cu and Angelica Martin opened the event with a 9.900 and Bella Swarthout and Bethany Glick earned a 9.800 to close it out. Oregon earned a 29.050 for the event, just below Baylor's 29.325.
The Ducks scored no lower than a 9.675 in the pyramid event, led by a 9.850 in the open heat. Baylor edged out the Ducks in all three heats to take a 96.375-94.725 lead at the half.
Oregon was narrowly outpointed in toss, 28.850-28.450, and was led by a 9.625 in the open heat. The Ducks kept the meet within reach with a 56.550 in tumbling that was just surpassed by Baylor's 56.600. The Ducks' three solo passes from Briya Alvarado, Riley Watson and Morgan Willingham earned a 9.775, 9.725 and 9.775, respectively, to lead the way for Oregon. UO also won the trio tumbling heat with a 9.150 from Alvarado, Alexis Giardina and Haley Ellis.
As the lower seed, Oregon went first in the team event and posted an 86.630 team event total. Baylor capped the meet with a 94.190.
