Ducks Fall to Penn State
03/23/25 | Women's Lacrosse
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon lacrosse team got out to a quick start but could not keep up the pace for the full 60 minutes on Sunday, falling 19-10 to Penn State at Papé Field.
The Ducks (5-5, 0-3 Big Ten) scored the first three goals of the game and held a 4-2 advantage after the opening period. The Nittany Lions (3-7, 1-2 Big Ten) used a 5-0 scoring run to take the lead in the second quarter and a 7-0 run in the third to keep Oregon at bay.
Bri Carrasquillo led the Ducks offensively on the afternoon with five goals while Anna Simmons scored twice to go with an assist. The pair lead the Ducks in scoring on the season with 27 goals apiece. Goalkeeper Paige Crowther got the start for Oregon, matching her season high with seven saves.
How It Happened: Simmons got the Ducks on the board quickly, finding the back of the net just 37 seconds after the opening whistle. Minutes later, Carrasquillo scored twice to give UO the early 3-0 lead, but Penn State responded with two quick goals. With seconds left in the quarter, Alex Matsuoka sent a shot on goal from a tough angle that bounced in to beat the shot clock and gave the Ducks the 4-2 edge after 15 minutes.
Penn State scored five times in the second quarter before Simmons stopped the run with her second goal of the day off the feed from Jenae Sperling. Defenses prevailed in the final minutes of the half and the Ducks went to the locker room trailing, 7-5.
The Nittany Lions put two more goals on the board to start the third, but Carrasquillo and Sperling each scored to bring the Ducks back within two. Penn State was able to wear down the Oregon defense thanks to their success on the draw and scored six straight to end the period, taking a 15-7 lead.
Carrasquillo scored twice and Lyla Hurley added a late goal in the final quarter, but Penn State found the back of the net four times to seal the win.
Notable: Carrasquillo has scored 18 goals in her last five games and leads the Ducks with 32 points on the year … With 162 career draw controls, Rachel Pallo needs just two to pass Morgan McCarthy for third in program history.
Up Next: The Ducks hit the road to face Maryland on Thursday (2 p.m., B1G+).
