Ducks Open 2025 Season With Big Score
02/15/25 | Acrobatics & Tumbling
Oregon is off to its best start in a decade after beating Morgan State to open the season Saturday.
EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team is off to its best start in a decade.
Other than a couple missteps in the tumbling event, the Ducks got their 2025 season started in strong, consistent fashion Saturday night at Matthew Knight Arena. The UO women put together their best season-opening score since 2015 and their best score in four years under head coach Taylor Susnara in beating Morgan State by a score of 281.205-256.145.
"I think that they did a really solid job competing today," Susnara said. "In the tumbling event, I was a little surprised with the two falls back-to-back, because in practice we normally don't get that; it was a little bit of nerves, a little shaky warm-up. But today we got one of our highest scores in the last couple of years. So I'm really proud of how that turned out."

The Ducks took the lead in the opening compulsory event and never looked back, winning each event by a comfortable margin. That included the meet finale, with Oregon scoring 99.180 in the team event, to 85.320 for the visiting Bears.
"We had a minor hiccup in (5-element acro), but she recovered super well in that so it was pretty minor," Susnara said. "But all in all I was pleasantly surprised with what scores we put up today, so I think they did a really good job."
How It Happened: Oregon scored 9.80 in each of the first two compulsory heats and then 9.85 in compulsory toss, taking a 38.450-37.200 lead after the first event.

Despite the hiccup in 5-element acro, the Ducks put up scores of 9.650, 9.600 and 9.700 in the three heats, with senior Bethany Glick contributing to the latter two scores.
Pyramid saw Oregon's run of consistency continue, with scores of 9.900, 9.850 and 9.900 in the three heats. Seniors Brylie Hoover and Blessyn McMorris helped the Ducks score in all three and lead at halftime, 97.050-91.700.
The run of consistency continued in the toss event, with scores of 9.700, 9.700 and 9.750. The Ducks had slips in the trio pass and quad pass heats of the tumbling event, but Haley Ellis bounced back from the quad heat with a 9.725 in the 6-element pass. Freshman Morgan Willingham helped the Ducks to scores of 9.5 in the duo pass and 9.850 in the open pass, and fellow freshman Briya Alvarado scored 9.850 in the aerial pass.

That gave the Ducks a comfortable lead entering the team event, in which they scored 99.180. When their final total of 281.205 was announced, looks of pleasant surprise registered on the team's faces as the success of their season-opening performance sunk in.
"Today it was a little bit of a long meet, and so I think for both teams, each team did a really good job of just keeping the energy really high and dialing in when they needed to, and staying loose," Susnara said. "And that was kind of the motto, as we kind of felt the timing and the flow of the meet, was just to stay loose and stay focused when we need to."
Up Next: The Ducks host top-ranked Baylor next Saturday (4 p.m., B1G+).
