EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon kicker Atticus Sappington was announced on Monday as the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after making the game-winning field goal in the Ducks' 18-16 win at No. 20 Iowa on Saturday.
Sappington earned the honor for the first time this season and third time in his career. He was the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks early in 2024.
Sappington joins running back Jordon Davison (Freshman, Week 9), quarterback Dante Moore (Offense, Week 5) and inside linebacker Jerry Mixon (Defense, Week 3) as Ducks to earn a Big Ten weekly honor this season.
A redshirt senior, Sappington drilled a 39-yard, game-winning field goal with three seconds remaining to seal the Ducks' top-20 road victory over the Hawkeyes. He matched his career high by going 3-for-3 on field goals, also connecting from a season-long 46 yards and 40 yards earlier in the game.
It was the second game-winning field goal as a Duck for Sappington, who kicked one as time expired last season against Boise State.
Sappington is 11-of-14 on field goals and 31-of-31 on extra points this season. He and the Ducks (8-1, 5-1 Big Ten) will host Minnesota in Autzen Stadium this Friday, Nov. 24 (6:00 p.m. PT, FOX).
