Men's Tennis Defeats Santa Clara in Season Opener

EUGENE Ore. – Oregon men's tennis started the season strong today, defeating Santa Clara 7-0 in Eugene.
Freshmen duo Clement Lemire and Paris Pouatcha teamed up in doubles for a 6-2 win, while Vlad Breazu and Cooper Errey fell on court three to leave the point up to court one. Lenn Luemkemann and Matthew Burton clinched it with a 6-4 win.
With a one-zero advantage, the Ducks would need to win three of the six singles matches for a victory. Lemire continued his strong play on the day with a 6-3, 6-2 sweep. Junior Matthew Burton made it 3-0 Ducks with a 7-5, 6-1 win on court five. Errey was in for a battle on court six, dropping the first set and needing to win the next two. The Freshman clinched the match, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
With a victory in-hand, the remaining matches were played out. Paris Pouatcha got the fifth point of the day for Oregon, 7-6(2), 7-5, 6-3. Vlad Breazu won in three sets, 6-2, 6-7(6), 7-5 and Lenn Luemkemann brought home the sweep 6-1, 7-6(5), 7-5.
